So you can easily tell what you have without examing the number.

I open my wallet. I see two green and a blue. I know that I have $45. If it's american money I have to pull it out and shuffle through it counting.

Re: Re: Ye old yankee land is getting funny money

    Explain.

twoonies are bigger than loonies which are bigger than quarters which are bigger than nickels which are bigger than pennies which are bigger than dimes.

They all have a distinct color and size.

For bills, $5 is blue, $10 is purple, $20 is green, $50 is orangish, I forget what $100 and $1000 are, but they aren't important.

What's wrong with two dollar coins? They don't get destroyed, they're cheaper for the government, they're easier to use in vending machines, etc.

yeah huh, how much does the average vending machine charge in canada? it's usually between 75 cents and 1 dollar here... but canadian money is... worth less? so it costs more for stuff, or something.

In America we have vending machines that take paper money. :p I would rather carry a paper bill than carry a twoonie.

cheaper for the gov? do you know how many paper bills you can make for the price of the metal and processes that it takes to make a coin? I think it would outweigh the cost of replacement.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Ye old yankee land is getting funny money

For regular chocolate bars and **** it ranges from $1.00 to $1.25 if you're on a ferry or at SFU >=-(
Many of our machines also take paper money. But you always have to **** around with the bill because it's either bent, torn, or crumpled.

And no, manufacturing cost of coins does not exceed the replacement cost of bills. Why else would they make them?

    Plus they look cool.

That's nice, but it's worthless without another table providing the minting costs of bills.

tried, but couldn't find any. I was planning on editing the post with a link to a table like that for bills. Bills are printed, not minted, and that means it is done by a different branch of the treasury. The printing branch doesn't have nice tables. :(

coins are cool, it feels like real money.
and you can have lots of them in your pocket, and you can pick one up and coin toss to pass time.

I have about 60$ in quarters in my room... it weighs a ****load... I don't need a 2$ coin that would weigh more than a quarter... the US system as-is is fine for me... and yes before you say it I HAVE been to other countries... England... forgetaboutit, Jamaca... what the hell!, oh and now Europe is getting the Euro... errr yeah... The point is, the last thing that America needs right now is MSN. Dozens of nations around the world have blue money and many other colored bills. Just because the US has boring looking money doesn't mean that the rest of the world does. Saying that colors are stupid is just like saying that colored Macs were as well.

theres a difference between serious topics (money) and personal preference (iMacs). You could only compare them if money came in custom colors for each person's taste.
