I don't know if any of you watched the premiere of Firefly last night of Fox, but it seems like an okay show so far.

It's basically an anti-trek show, Cowboy Bebop in real life without the jazz aspect.
Basically futuristic, no aliens, outlying futuristic prehistoric.

Main characters are on a junkship and they do jobs for independant persons. These jobs aren't very respectable.

I'm not sure what to think about the captain at the moment. I don't like the goody goody, always doing the right thing, andromeda-type captain. He'll have to be good yet evil at the same time for me to like him, but I don't know if this is possible in a tv show.

Anyways, if you haven't seen it you can grab an svcd of the episode in alt.binaries.multimedia.

He hates it. Lexx ended though after the 7th (?) season.

Stupid VCR. I set it at the right time and everything needed to record Firefly and instead it gives me some Star Trek Voyager crap instead.

:barf: Most disapointing and abrupt series ending ever. (Baring cancelation)

    Good show though.

No but cancelation would have been more abrupt. I thought the TNG & DS9 endings were done well.

Joss Whedon does good work. Give him 6 episodes and he should have everything well in place.

It would be better described as a "Space Western" though. That's how Joss describes it, and I am sure you noticed that they paid homage to the most well known space western of all by almost cloning an entire scene from it.

    now, as for Lexx.
Semi-decent concept (the living ship part, though farscape does it a lot better), horrid execution (in fact, those responsible for Lexx should be executed). I would rather watch reruns of "space precinct" than "Lexx" any day.

    Yes, Lex is crap.

And it wasn't on at 11pm. It was on at 8pm. The retarded tvguide.ca site messed me up.

When you go there they ask for your postal code to get the listings for your specific area. So I put it in and get it for coquitlam but it gave me the timezone for Eastern Standard. I don't know why'd you want EST time if you lived in coquitlam, but anyways I missed it because of that.

And my mom just asked us if we had to rewind the DVD we just watched before returning it to the video store.

firefly wasn't what i expected. it was just too much a Western in space, right down to robbing a train... with a spaceship? Hm. The preview for the next one look like they may be facing some sort of Alien type creature, not sure from the short trailer i saw. That would improve the show for me, adding some aliens and some creepy sheeeit now and then.
I was impressed with the fight in the cargo bay near the end of the episode, the thrown knife in teh shoulder was somewhat of a shocke and they didn't hold back with the gunfire, actually let some people get hit.
Oh and the initial bar brawl was funny when the capt got tossed out the "window" which shimmered back into place after he passed through it.
I'll give it 3 more weeks before I put it on my smash or trash list.

No...if you add aliens then it'll turn into some faggy Star Trek, or Aliens.

The movie has to deal with humans and the future.

Heh, yes, JW is well known for nicely done fight scenes.
I wouldn't be too surprised if he added an alien or two into the mix (it is space after all) but the focus will undoubtedly be on the humans.

4 eps should be sufficient for evaluation, but something is telling me to give it an extra two eps just to be certain. I don't know if it's a real desire to want the show to be good or the realization that there is no good sci-fi on the horizon.
