What is your opinion of the current state of the Mac platform?
wow. could you get any more vague?
I feel let down by Apple. When the first iMac came Macs could actually compete with peecees in both price and performance. Right know Apple is far behind intel and AMD in raw power.
The OS is still better, but that´s all right now.
Hardware too expensive (but good hardware), don't support older hardware (i.e., stuff that plugged into a serial port like an old webcam). OS rocks except for Windows compatibility (being able to make the OS partition FAT32/NTFS would rock).
Well my parents Gateway and Dell are breaking down, and I convinced them to get a 15" iMac, so that's an accomplishment. People are willing to consider macs again...
Dell sucks. Gateways are overpriced.
Dude, you're preaching to the converted...
I said okay.
OS X is great and Apple's industrial design is the best in the industry.
The problem is Macs have not kept pace with the Wintel world in terms of speed. Macs are pricey and because PCs are faster, many have questioned whether Macs are worth their cost.
Apple has no way to improve the performance of their machines until IBM or Motorola deliver faster chips. Motorola has plans to take the G4 to 1.8GHz in 2003, but by then it will be too little too late.
Apple's only hope is IBM's new chip or x86. While it is rumored Apple maintains an x86 compatible version of OS X, transitioning to a new CPU architecture after a major OS transition might push some developers over the edge.
Apple needs to stick with PowerPC in the short term and if the PowerPC 970 delivers as promised, the Mac platform will look much better in 2004.
You must recycle this poll after next years San Fransico expo, if there is one
I heard from my dad that Gateway had a Mac-smashing ad (not the one with the Gateway jumping over the iMac, a different one) where some lady was preaching gateway the same way the Mac ads preach mac, except she was saying how PCs can run so many more programs blah blah, but Gateway had to pull the ad because it wasn't a real person it was an actor (apparently all the Mac ad people are Mac people) cool!
I love it when Apple stock goes up. I dont' own any, but it's nice to see.
Funny, Microsoft tried the same thing with its own switch ad. The person turned out to be a fake, so the web page was pulled.
I think it's good.
Apple is slowly getting better. In a few years they may be where everybody would like them. As it is they have an great OS and some NICE laptops. Oh yeah... and they're not M$.
Separate names with a comma.
