The logic is this Jake...women can pretty much pick up a man every day of the week (several men if they really want each night)... if they don't feel like this (and are only after pleasure, not intimacy) they can use a vibrator, which, sad to say, none of us can compare to when it comes to pleasuring a woman (don't even bristle, it's impossible)...

I also take issue with the term "retro" in retrosexual, because being a gentleman "back in the day" was just a facade, giving women their due respect via chivarly wasn't really a sign of respect, but a demoralizing ideology which stats women are inferior to men, therefore, we must treat them like delicate flowers...socially oppressed, sexually repressed, by these so-called "men" for fear of losing power...

I say let men be who they want to be, if it gives them pleasure to walk around in linen shirts and high fashion shoes, so be it...if they like hunting in the wilderness and killing deer with their bare hands, good...I could care less. Go to it...

pleasure to a woman is usually a lot more than purely physical.

Yeah, enjoy that stamina while you're younger. The refractory period gets longer and longer. Of course, that's what Viagra is for. :yeah:

(Not that I'm old enough to need Viagra....yet).

Interesting take. Probably a kernel of truth to that too, although I think it paints the issue with a pretty broad brush. I don't think most men (or women) who act chivalrous are doing it with an ulterior motive. I also agree with Jesse when he says that there is a definite lack of respect for other people floating around. I see it every day on the highway, at the mall, whereever. The attitude seems to be "Get the f*ck out of my way, I own this damn space and you're in it."

The world would be a lot better place if people just had more simple courtesy, for everyone, opposite sex, same sex, it doesn't matter. Politeness is definitely becoming a lost art.

Osiris reading your tidbit there it appears you believe that good manners = demoralization and oppression. Let me put up a couple of examples of how this comes across to someone reading it.

I am exiting a mall and notice the person behind me has there hands full so I hold the door open for them.

I ask someone to pass the salt and say thank you when they hand it to me.

A friend asks to help pack up there house and move 5 blocks and unpack. I say I'll be there and I'm helping for 2 days.

I feel these are examples of good manners. They are not demoralizing anyone. Perhaps Lurk is right and your just being too general. I know you talking about a different time but everyone was not oppressive who had good manners in the past.

I would like to hear a better definition of your opinion Osiris, it just too vague.

What Osiris is talking about is the bullshit feminist garbage that they spew when they aren't clamoring for the women superiority and painting pictures with menstrual blood.

I've come into a contact with a few of these people and it's awful. Because you hold the door or whatever they accuse you of insinuating that they are incapable of opening the door for themselves and are therefore inferior AND OMG THE MEN ARE KEEPING US DOWN LET'S GO READ MORE MARGERET ATWOOD AND WRITE BULLSHIT ESSAYS!

I'd like to come up with an amusing anecdote, but I fail to understand this concept. I even asked Jeanna and she said she didn't even know what that's all about.

"Listen Lady, don't blow smoke up my butt, just get in the damn car."

Actually, I was merely refering to the term retro and what it's definition is... It has nothing to do with today's morals, or showing respect to people today, or whatever. Merely, what men were like in "retro"spect.

I'm surprised no one took this quote and ran with it..shame on you for not taking such a blatant opportunity.

OOOHhhh .50 Desert Eagle. I went to a shooting range with friends from work a few months ago. I haven't shot in a while and they invited me. James has a Desert Eagle. Very nice. As was the .48 magnum with a scope believe it or not. Then he brought out the 7mm rifle. I grew up on a large farm so I prefer rifles. Everyone heard that go off. Yes he has a small arsenal.

Osiris just with your definition of retro your generalizing a lot. Don't get me wrong: I know there were men not too many years ago that they ruled there home totally. The wives had a fear of there husbands and the law was not there as it is today. (MY grandfather was abusive according to my father. Nobody got put in the hospital but it wasn't pleasant.) I'm just letting you know I have a good understanding of how bad some households were. SOME not all. You area stereotyping a very large group of people in a very negative view.

That leads me to this: you either have a very negative view and/or an uneducated view of our subject. Or you just haven't defined it well yourself.

What subject. You can't generalize about the definition of a word. Am I wrong?

My whole point is first, that there isn't just one type of man. All men don't like to do, or feel the same way about everything.

Second, I hate categorization of anything, unless it is in a strictly scientific or mathamatical ascpect. We don't fall into one neat little category, defined, tagged and catalogued neatly in a file. I was taking issue more with the term, than with the values.

Thirdly, when you are speaking of a systemic problem of a worldwide patriarchy, you kind of have to generalize. You sort of can't take a societal system on a case by case basis.

But, we can take eachother's arguments out of context all we want, that's just part of life on the Internet. Ah, the freedom to be offensive without real reprisals...so grand. Feels good cow, I may have to start being more of a prick, I guess

I don't like guns, they scare me. Well the guns themselves don't scare me, the people who have them scare me since people are retarded.

hey, don't diss us gun owners (or aspiring gun owners in my case)

as far as retrosexualism is concerned, my girlfriend hates it. It's like the female is some untouchable perfect being that the man is supposed to skirt around and not be direct. As for me, that's more or less the way I was raised so I had some fun laughing at myself when I found out that you really CAN tell girls dirty jokes without fear of reprisal... at least some.

she forced me to let her pay for starbucks last time we went. heh
