No one is leeching from me individually. They're leeching from society, and I as a taxpayer am a small part of it.

The government gets money through taxes. They then distribute this money to the departments that need it. Look at how much social services drains per year. It's massive.

Wouldn't it make more sense to funnel that money into something else?

not at the expense of people lives. If you got in an accident and never became a productive member of society but could still live a fufilling life would you like to be killed?

I'm not talking about a limited disability. I'm talking about the whole nine yards. How could you qualify a disabled person's life as fulfilling?

My father-in-law is completely disabled. He had a stroke at 41, and has been paralyzed and nearly incapable of speech (the right side of his entire body is paralyzed) ever since. He still enjoys his life, but he is completely non-productive. I bet he would say his life is fulfilling. I'm sure he wouldn't want you to kill him.

But he contributed to society up to that point and is still conscious of his existence so I wouldn't place him in the same group.

Communism works on paper. That much we know. And Capitalism doesn't work on paper b/c 'the rich get richer, poor get poorer'. But guess what? IN REAL LIFE, which one works?? as far as most Americans know, Capitalism. here's the problem.

The communists we fought in the Cold War were not true communists. They were a bunch of power-hungry manipulators willing to take advantage of a situation. They used secret police, censorship and a one-party system. That is not communism, because Communism is meant to work on a smaller scale. By having a communist system in a large area, there is much waste from centralized government. THAT IS WHY IT WORKS IN EUROPE! All the european countries are SMALL. There is no agency in London that taxes the people of Krakow, Poland. And Communism came upon Europe (and yes, I've been to Europe recently and I think it is pretty communist) slowly, through 60 years of subtle influence. The Ruskies may have been the enemy, but Marx's ideas will last on. See, what would happen in the US and Canada if the federal government were abolished and the individual states became sovreign nations? No more federal tax. Localization. Fewer bottlenecks.

but what do the small nations of Europe sacrifice? The ability to defend themselves. Could Germany send troops to Indonesia or Afghanistan in one month, let alone nuke any place in the world in and hour? Thats why nobody picks on the US (aside from terrorists apparently).

In an ideal communist world, the planet would be divided into small independent nations that maintained the status quo. That is an ideal world.

How can anyone be the judge of if a person's life is fuffilling or not? But on the other hand I can see your point about the far far end of the spectrum aka letting some one who is almost brain dead with no chance of recovery die.

blech, status quo = stagnation = extinction

    True

Marx´s ideas will live on, but I don´t think Europe is "pretty communist" take sweden for example.
Our biggest party is Socialdemokraterna (a "socialistic" party) they aren´t very communist. The left wing of swedish politics consists of Vänsterpartiet (the Left Party) and Socialdemokraterna. The Left party was once called the Communist Party but they´ve abandomed that now, they are not very communist either.
There are some small communist parties like SKP and KPMLR adn they don´t have much support in the general population.
Sweden is more to the left then most other contries in the world but far from communist.
