    M.A.C. File Server

In addition to the boards here, there is also a file server for macsubculture.com (M.S.C.). You can connect using either Hotline or Carracho. Here you can find files pertaining to the clan. It should be up 24/7, with a DSL connection. Use 69.225.228.147 for the address. Use this login information:

    login: mscguest (case sensitive)
    no pass

This server is the clan's. Anything you want to upload is fine. You don't need to ask me. I don't have anything for D2 and I'm still getting together stuff for the other games. Before you upload something, go to General Information (command+i) and type something like:

Uploaded to M.S.C. server by SpocKirk. Funny Flash file.

or include a text file. It makes it easier for me to organize the server if I know what the file is.

I would prefer no warez, and nothing with excessive swearing or sexual themes. This is an extension, of sorts, of the mac-gamer boards, so anything not allowed on the boards should not be allowed on the server, either.

If you have any suggestions, e-mail me at SpocKirk@mscclan.com. I will be on from time to time, but I will be away from my computer most of the time (church and work).

anyone kow how I can keep my ISP from kicking me after "long periods of inactivity" (like when I'm downloading something on HL)? Does anyone know what kind of activity they require? I have SBCglobal DSL.

the only way is to upgrade to the 5 static IP package. i think it's $60 or $65 a month instead of $40 or $50 (depending on what your initial rate was).

I ain't got no money. Can't I make an applescript that opens up IE every hour (can you have time-launched applescripts?)? If they don't consider HL downloading activity, then what qualifies?

it's not based on activity. well, yes it is but... dynamic IPs will always have a lease time. when your lease expires the connection will be interupted as you are either dropped or given a new IP.

Yeah, I figured they would interrupt it to reassign IPs. I'll just have to disconnect for a few minutes every other day to keep it from dropping while I'm away.

It looks like the no2banners.dhs.org tracker is down. Use darksidetracker.dhs.org instead.

    why am I commenting? I don't use C or HL =p

I have SWBell DSL, we are clinging to DHCP despite SWB's best efforts to push us over to PPPoE or other inferior garbage so they can tighten their grip, so to speak. I suggest either switching to Static or dealing with it, nothing you can do w/ dynamic to get an indefinite lease (would defeat the purpose of dynamic IPs, would it not?)

I am running out of space (already). I have OS 9.2.1 and 10.0.3 installed, and the rest is the M.A.C. server files. I have a 6GB HD in my 333 iMac, So I would need to add a USB HD :( (no firewire). Are there any good ones? Or is there a possible soldering option? I guess I could get a USB/Firewire drive, since my sister has a new iBook with firewire, but I am poor. No $$$.

Oh, I also have a MPEG of Gattica (400MB) and Akira (150MB). My HD is pretty much full. 100MB left. If I can get Gattica working (right now the sound and video is jerky) I'll transfer it to a VCD (my DVD player plays VCDs).

Well, if my T1 ever stops behaving like a Hopped up Crack Whore, I guess I can host a server ( I have 140 Gig's of space) :)
