I guessed right!!!
See my OMG! post.

2048x1536x32??? my GOD
Freakin auto. You always get the new stuff right when it comes out. Share the wealth man.
/me drools some more
/me erases Autolycus and steals his identity
/me acquires Geforce 3.
This reminds me of when the Mac Quake 3 demo was released a month before the PC version. PC gamers still believe they'll get their Geforce3 boards before we do. We'll see. Wouldn't it be nice if we got DOOM 3 a month early as well? Carmarck rocks!
Wouldn't THAT be a switch for once.
Heh. Remember, the card is shipping late march. Not now.
but did you see the price?
$600 BTO option, F@CK that.
ATI is fine and I'll stick with ATI if the alternative adds $600 to my mac. The Radeon is a great card, ATI is going to remain an option on macs if not the default card for the forseeable future.
dude no no no.... that is if you buy it seperately... if you buy it with a new G4, it is only 350$
nod we also must remember about the poor PCI slot guys like me still out there wimpering in the corner...I probably won't bother buying a new computer until the second revision of G5's anyway (probably just going to upgrade my CPU in my old computer to give it more pep in the mean time)..I still don't know how you guys manage to buy all this new equipment...I wish I could
My computer has a PCI graphics slot too. That's why I'm going for the Radeon PCI.
Well, my V5 runs Q3 ant UT just GRRRRREAT ... heh
The V5 is also pretty much the only graphics option for Falcon 4 (my other favorite game with Diablo 2). It's a five year old game, and so only has RAVE and Glide support, but the thing is, it was built for the PC version then ported by those awesome guys at Westlake, and since they didn't have time to tweak the RAVE, there's no shading ahd texture lighting on any ATI cards. In other words, it looks crap. Hence the Voodoo 4/5 is really the only option for hardware acceleration. I'm planning on a new computer, and the GF3 would be awesome, but I'd have to run Falcon in software rendering, not too bad since it would be on dual G4 533s under OS X . So ya, I guess I'll go with the GF3 . Now I'm kinda waiting for the next Mac Flight sim, but I think it will be a LONG time before anything comes along even close to the realism of Falcon, that game is just unbelieveable! Shame though, what all the PC guys have done with it, and we can't do a thing since we don't have the following . . . Oh well, I'm kinda outta that game/sim/life/obsession so it doesn't really matter any more.
Looking back through that post, I rambled on like hell !
I wanna see Mechwarrior 4 damnit... That game looks shweeeeeeeet... Arrrg heh here I am up at like 12 in the morning when in less than 7 hrs I have to take a test to get more scholarship money from one of the Colleges I am looking at... hmmm 6,500$ a year to get me to come there... not bad... and all merit scholarship too
Just some questions on this...
Is ATI ever going to make a comeback on Mac? I have the ATI Radeon 64MB DDR card in my PC and it's awsome. I've also read about the upcoming Radeon 256 that features 128MB of RAM (reminds me of the Voodoo 5 6000 i never got). Is ATI ever going to try to take nVidia's place back and become the standard display card in Macs again?
And that Doom 3 demo, does this mean Doom 3 is deing developed to take full advantage of OS X and the Geforce3? Or are Mac users getting screwed and still getting a PC port?
$6,500 a year? Yikes, i pay that for high school and waste my education by spending one of my periods reading MacWorld...what a good investment
bottom line. nVidia has name recognition, so does ATI. Except nVidia is known for being the graphics leader, ATI is known for it's crappy drivers and 16bit rendering. You say "ATI" and people go "ewww, ATI?!". It's hard to get past a brand generalization like that.
doom III is being designed to take advantage of all the little performance enhancers in OS X and the GF3, carmack is a HUGE fan of carbon and im sure he's doing everything he can to make the mac version own the PC "port"
