Civ IV sounds cool to me. I loved 1 and 2, and hated 3.

Yeah, I tried playing Civ III but after my entire force of panzer tanks was taken out by a town with spear dudes in it I decided to quit. I do like winning by culturaly influence though. Kind of makes me feel like $tarbuck$

Civ III is great, perhaps not as good as II, it feels a bit slow compared to it.

I can't believe for a minute cows game will surpass any of the civ games :P

I don't think that phenomenon was exclusive to Civ III. The original Civ was notorious for that, because battles were a one-roll decision. So even if the math came out to a 1-20 shot for the spearman to beat a tank, it would happen sometimes. Less of a problem in Civ II, the battles were a series of rolls whereby units would take damage until one was dead.

Besides, it's plausible. One spearman dislocates the tread with a well-placed throw. Remaining spearmen swarm the now immobilized tank, beheading the crew and placing their heads on pikes for all to see. Tank is dismantled and parts used for ceremonial jewelry. See, perfectly logical.

    Cow knows all. :p

I didn't dislike III, it just didn't have that same addictive quality the previous games did. And you're right, it just felt slower.

As I recall, many people who hated Civ III did so because they missed the cheese-fest that Fundamentalism was in Civ II. :D

I don't like the crappy civ, aoe, etc.. rts clones because you train like eight hundred little swordsmen who take six minutes to raze one building. Dumb.

Also that supreme commander is basically total annihilation 2. Total annihilation and starcraft have been the only good rts games, the rest have been garbage.

I was generalizing to strategy games in general. They're all fundamentally the same.

I beg to differ, civ is fundamentally different to most games, even most strategy games.

I remember having parking a pikeman up in a mountain pass and forgetting about him for a few thousand years. War breaks out and he was able to take on several fighter jets as well as a tank or two before he was finally taken down. Now that is some skill.
