Now we'll have shitty sequels.
Blizzard North only did Diablo, right? I think other Blizzard games are under different Blizzard teams.
So, what does this mean? No diablo 3 or what?
Roper was just the PR guy, no big loss there. Cow's right though, the three founders may have ensured some level of quality control. Shouldn't affect 1.10 though.
There are 50 threads on the bnet forums with people giving their uneducated opinions about what this means. I created a thread asking for a Blizzard rep to make a statement, but it immediately got hijacked by opinions so I deleted it.
gamespot talks with Bill Roper on the phone about this latest development.
I think it's awesome, I'm hoping we'll see them coming out with the more rich titles that characterized Blizzard's earlier years.
If they do, we won't see those titles for at least a few years, assuming they are starting from scratch.
Three lead designers and one lead producer.
only one programmer I might add. Programming is what takes time. Two of them are artists.
Programming can be done by any kid out of university.
What counts is the central idea and art.
Did you ever play a shitty game but continued to play it because it was OMG SO WELL CODED?
Truth be told, the programming for all of Blizzard's games is pretty shitty. They used pre-existing game building tools and there were always tons of bugs.
I don't have access to the source code for any Blizzard games or know enough about programming to come to a conclusion about how good their code is.
I only get to play their finished games. So far I'm impressed with all of them, except Diablo 2 on the Mac platform.
Not to mention this isn't the first time this has happened; and I quote -

You might consider calling them, Jake. The number is on diabloii.net
They'll need everything from web designer to sysadmin to QA and testing.
we need originality from Blizzard - not just crap that any game producer could put out. That's why the game producers can't be in it for the money; they need to put in the effort to make a really good game.
So far they only have three universes: Warcraft, Starcraft, and Diablo. Why not diversify and make a FPS or something?
One of the reasons the four left is because Vivendi wouldn't let them have a say on company direction. They were being dictated to by their parent corporation.
Starcraft: Ghost? Blizzard has some good things going for them, maybe they should diversify, but not at the expense of existing titles. Blizzard North has two titles in development, I think it's safe to say one is Diablo III, but the other could be something new.
Hehe, it's Lord de Seis.
