Since we have had a few threads about guns I thought some of you would find this interesting. The Brady Bill is set to expire on sept.13. For us Gun nuts, what this means is more fun, but for all those liberal anti-gun fanatics, it's the end of the world. harharharh

Q: What is the status of the federal assault weapons ban?

A: The federal law banning the sale of semi-automatic assault weapons, known as the federal assault weapons ban, was passed as part of the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994. President Clinton signed it into law on September 13, 1994. The current ban is set to expire on September 13, 2004.

Q: What are the provisions of the ban?

A: On September 13, 1994, domestic gun manufacturers were required to stop production of semi-automatic assault weapons and ammunition clips holding more than 10 rounds except for military or police use.

Imports of assault weapons not already banned by administrative action under Presidents Reagan and George H.W. Bush were also halted. Assault weapons and ammunition clips holding more than 10 rounds produced prior to September 13, 1994, were "grandfathered" in under the law and can still be possessed and sold.

The 1994 law also prohibits manufacturers from producing firearms with more than one of the following assault weapon features:

    Rifles

    Folding/telescoping stock
    Protruding pistol grip
    Bayonet mount
    Threaded muzzle or flash suppressor
    Grenade launcher

    Pistols

    Magazine outside grip
    Threaded muzzle
    Barrel shroud
Unloaded weight of 50 ounces or more
Semi-automatic version of a fully automatic weapon

    Shotguns

    Folding/telescoping stock
    Protruding pistol grip
    Detachable magazine capacity
Fixed magazine capacity greater than 5 rounds

Edit*-What this may mean, in retrospect, is that , If Kerry wins, between the time that the bill expires and the turnover in January, we have 4 months to grab all the "illegal" assault weapon accesorries before Kerry undoubtedly extends the bill, or worse, institutes one even more strict.

Yeah, cause I'm gonna need a grenade launcher in time for Christmas.

I thought it was the other way around, you can't make semi-autos into full autos. Correct me if I am wrong.

The definition of an assault weapon is a semi-automatic version of a full auto weapon. Yes, you are correct though.

My friend has a SOPMOD M4 ready to go. He's gonna buy the m203, suppressor, and some Acog zoom sight to mount on it.

By the way, if I were President, I would meet with the NRA to work out a compromise in introducing legislation to restrict handgun usage. Assault weapons are probably 1% of all violent gun-related crimes. They're cost prohibitive. You can buy a 9mm Glock for $50 in Inglewood...

you can rub them in sand, or grease and they will still fire. It's a solid piece of polymer that can be dropped from 5 stories and not accidentally fire with a round the chamber and the safety off. I don't like them, but I guess I'm old fashioned.

*edit-On another note, heres a photoshop version of what my m4 will look like after the brady bill sunset.

Glocks are cheap and durable, like the AK-47 of handguns.

i love my P90! i was just talkin' about it being a pea shooter in CS. and yeah, the mag is a bit weird to start off with, but you get used to it. the biggest problem is mag storage, cause they're so flippin' long.

I agree cow, if harley or his friends live in the states, they have to have some crazy permits for 4 of those 5 guns. Unless their Law Enforcement or Military, or if he was being sarcastic to get some stupid liberal anti-gun theme across?
