I have an .avi file, but it only works on my PC using a codec called XviD. the website for XviD says it's just an MPEG-4 codec, but doesn't QT6 decode MPEG-4, too? QT6 plays it (on my Mac), but with no sound

i recall filburt posting about video codecs... i think there are a few pc proprietary sound formats that can be used in conjunction with any video format. maybe those mp4 movies are using some pc sound codec.

    i wouldn't say proprietary.
if the audio codec is MP3, use the DivX Validator from www.divx.com. (look for the Mac version on the right hand side somewhere in the process of finding the download page.) if it's AC3, extract the audio with QuickTime or DivX Tool and use mAC3dec to decode it, or use a52decX to decode it straight from the movie. if it's WMA, you're going to have to get your hands dirty. download the OS9 WMA extension from the maker of DivX Tool, and put it into your classic extensions folder. boot classic, and open DivX Doctor 2 in it. attempt to doctor the movie. it should work, but it'll take some time. most likely, you'll have to restart classic if you want to do another movie. the extension is really the opposite of robust.

ugh. I'll just watch it on my pc. too much trouble.

BTW, the file is "Blue Gender - 01.avi" (anime) and I'm downloading two more eps from the same place, so they'll probably be the same. I'll put the codec installer on the server, too.

trigun-04.avi isn't a good file on your server, it's not a QT file.

    Fixor please.

I think it was converted with divx doctor I. I'll check it
//edit: the audio is fixed, so you don't have to run it through the validator. QT6 opens it just fine on my comp
