I opened Internet Explorer this morning and my home page is no longer My Yahoo, it's this Xupiter thing. It's added a tool bar at the top and has a pop up add every time I click on my homepage (forgetting that yahoo has been kicked out).

I went to properties to change it back, but all it gives me is the stats for the current web page. I can't figure out how to get to the user options menu to get my homepage back.

Where did this thing come from? My IE Explorer worked last night. Jesse uses Netscape 7 on this PC. Normally I'm on the Powerbook's Safari, but during the day I hop on the PC cause it's faster. I don't think he updated my Explorer since he doesn't use it.

How would this Xupiter take over my Explorer? I know MS is screwy, but don't possess my homepage :(

    :wtf:

edit: I finally found the internet option in favorites. But I'd still like to know if anyone has any idea where this Xupiter came from. I don't like the idea of my IE just changing itself whenever it feels like it

Someone must have clicked on something at some time that changed your homepage. Make sure to run some software like AdAware and Spykiller (or whatever its called)

What's funny is I've never been to Xupiter in my life, I don't even know what it is. Looks like a search site kinda like Yahoo. How it got picked as my homepage between last night and this morning is beyond me.

I'm spoiled by Safari, pop-blocker is nice. I downloaded a blocker for pc, but it was annyoing. It blocked most new windows when i clicked on a link to go somewhere. I just want to stop the ads.

The vast majority of files Adaware finds are usually cookies from porn sites, popups, ads, etc which are relatively harmless. The bad files and apps usually come from programs you download from the internet and install, or those popups on web pages that ask you "would you like to install this program?" (if you choose "yes")

we believe Xupiter got downloaded when with Kazaa downloads because thats when we started seeing problems. They were having a lot of pop-ups. Well Kazaa is gone now along with most of the other problems.

Kazaa itself has spyware components. Kazaa actually won't run if you remove its spyware components.

    We didn't like it anyway.

Stealing is stealing. The pop-ups were annoying, the intrusive spy-war a pain, but when ya get down to it, Kaaza is Napster and I'm sure it'll get shut down eventually. They might call it "sharing" but really it's just stealing.

    Kazaa lite has no popups.

And no, it will never be shut down. There are no central servers to shut down. It´s pure p2p. Unstoppable

Yep, like kraahl said kaaza has no central servers so the people that own it have no control over what is passed over it.

I think this is a little different. Kazaa is basically Napster, just not on a central server.

Making a copy of movie is illegal (hence the FBI warning no one actually reads) but all you can do is encode stuff to make it harder to copy.

With the internet, you can distribute things to millions of people, it's much more of an impact on industry.

why'd you install it in the first place then? you haven't lived a completely law-abiding life yourself, don't judge other people because you're all in the same boat anyway.
