Proc is short for Process. It's a term that started back in the old text MUD days. It's basically a random effect that can occur from a weapon or item.

Example: You have a weapon with glacier damage Proc, basically randomly during a fight; you have the chance to damage the mob that you are fighting with a blast of glacier.

I know what weapon proc refers to, but the term itself doesn't make sense.

Well, I don’t know what to tell you :bunny:

It’s been adopted by WoW (and most MMO) ...

Its because whenever the random effect would go off, it would set off another function... or process the special effect... just gets shortened to proc because people are lazy

Also, "proc" is short for "proctology." This month is Proctober on the Bob & Tom morning radio show. Their sports announcer had a prostate exam on the air this morning. They have done this a few times to raise awareness for the need to have an annual prostate exam (for men).

Ha that reminds me, I do know of a doctor that has a fake hand in his desk and when I asked why he had it he said it was for demonstration purposes, but that he also used it as a prank for examinations. He would place the fake hand on the patients left shoulder and then place is right hand on their right shoulder and continue the examination. Needless to say it freaked out many of his patients but even today I get a laugh out of picturing the patients reaction. :P
