i have spent the last 2 hours trying to find a good ftp client. i had fetch installed but it expired and would sit at the intro screen with greyed out buttons for 45 minutes. so i went to versiontracker and searched for ftp under the os x section. i have downloaded like 10 programs from the results list. i want freeware. one said it was freeware, i downloaded and installed it and it was shareware. i downloaded another one that said it installed but was no where to be found on either hard drive. i downloaded another one that had a corrupt dmg file. i downloaded another one that said it was freeware and turned out to be shareware (again). so then i downloaded another one that wouldn't launch because i need "newer java." so then i tried downloading two other shareware ones that said they installed but were no where to be found on either hard drive. so then i went back to the java one... i'm running my software update to see if that installs this "newer java" the installer is talking about.

    ****! *me dies*

...and the reason i'm doing this is because ftp through the terminal cannot download entire folders, at least, i have concluded this after trying to find out how to download folders for 30 minutes.

I just use CaptainFTP, but then I only use it simple uploads to my web site. It's free registration. Don't know if that's any use to you but hey.

    http://captainftp.xdsnet.de/ftp/description.htm

It lets me download folders and their contents in my tests.

beautiful. it takes an hour to run the software update (twice). i get the "newer java," run the program, and it can only download single files at a time.

****! **** this crap, i'm gonna download the directory on my pc and hotline it over.

I use Captain FTP's first release. The 2nd one they did was shareware, so I kept the first.

:( jakeman isn't fun when he's serious and angry...while hypothetical situation of someone forgetting how to use their mac is funny, i won't comment on this exact one

anyways, is there a HeftyFTP for OS X? i really like it for 9 and the 50 times of openning it seem to last longer than they should. i've had it for 6 months and still have only openned it, according to them, 7 times

I love NetFinder. It is the über ftp program. It can download entire folders.

Have you checked out RBrowserLite 3.0.5.2? It is freeware and it does let you do entire folders. Its what I have been using for FTP, but I hardly ever FTP (used once so far).

    Try Transmit

Try Transmit, it is use-all-you-want shareware. I think it does whole folders.
