Just downloaded SuSE to replace Redhat 7.1, and it is SWEET! I even have UT working now.

Hey Jake why can't I post a screenshot?

I was talking about SuSE. I dislike Mandrake, SuSE, RedHat, and all those other distros that cover everything with GUI.

you dislike GUIs? they make everything easier and allow the end user to be much more productive.

I like GUIs with optional command lines. OS X, Windows, etc... GUI is MUCH prefered but command lines are so classic.

That entirely depends on the end user. A GUI only allows less specific control. It's better for people who have less of an idea as to what they're doing.

    Your sarcasm is flabbergasting...

That's why X Windows is there, it's at least less concealing than Quartz and Luna, and a hell of a lot more customizable.

    OH NOS!

Haite has turned into a linux fanboy!

The elite use linux. 99% of people are stupid. Stupid people do not use Linux. Linux will never be accepted because people are too stupid to use it. AKA: Me.

I once tried using Linux. I got it installed but I didn't know how to use it so I deleted it.

Wow this is interesting. A Mac user who doesn't like GUIs.

First off Haite, X and Linux are not one and the same. Most distros now are configured to boot at runlevel 5, which loads X automatically. This is so dummies who are learning linux get a nice pretty graphical login instead of a command line. If you change /etc/inittab to runlevel 3, X won't automatically load, and can be launched at will. Even at runlevel 5 though, you still have your six terminals at your disposal, so the command line is not "covered up."

Out of curiosity, how much have you used linux?

SuSE, RedHat, and Mandrake are not elite. Go on Undernet into #redhat and you'll find a bunch of whining babies who collect mp3's to play on XMMS, but can't get their sound card to work so that's a moot point, and then they ask for exploits that they'll never use and just port scan all day long. Oh, don't forget their Matrix theme for KDE.

I'm not trying to beat on powerhouse, it's great that he's using Linux, I just dislike his choice of distro and I'm voicing my opinion. I have no idea as to his computing habits. He mentioned UT which is very cool since the OpenGL libraries for Linux kick ass.

Powerhouse: ftp into ftp.macintoxication.com and use temp/powerhouse then link to the pic in www.macintoxication.com/temp/

I'm well aware of the differentiation of X and the kernel and what makes up a distro. Please don't insult my intelligence.

Evil things. Very very evil things .

Well, only occasionally. I built a second box a while ago that runs BSD. It does DNS and IDS mainly. My main gaming machine I built last summer duals Windows 2000 and Debian now. I use the Debian for python, perl, and C mainly (like that overflow.c I posted in the PC forum a while ago). I suppose "security-related" would be a good description for my usage on *nix.
