Apparently it's going to be a prequel with some one playing young spock, young kirk, etc.

The Villain from Heroes is playing Spok. I can actually see him in that role.

Coming out next May. The trailer is on the site:

    http://www.startrekmovie.com/

It has potential, but I am put off by all of the action shots in the trailer. I wasn't able to extract any kind of substantive plot from the trailer which is never a good sign. I am lead to believe it will be about tits and phasers.

ps - you are supposed to assemble ships in space dock, not on land.

After the last few Trek movies and the abominations that they turned out to be, not to mention Enterprise, I think a reboot may be in order. I'm all for a smart, good Star Trek movie, but if it takes some tits and phasers to get some interest then I can handle it. Remember, this is a young Kirk we are talking about. Still a ways off though. Once they release the second trailer and we can actually get some plot figured out I'll be more easily able to make a judgment.

    New trailer:

    http://www.startrekmovie.com/

What ever happened to the smart star trek plots of the early TNG days? Some of the best episodes had no fighting at all. Now it's as if sex and violence are obligatory.

Sex, violence, pride of military service. Jerk me off, one more time! Hollywood deals in pornography and now it has infected the star trek franchise. I think I will masturbate instead of going to watch this movie since both acts serve the same purpose. I sincerely hope that these trailers are not representative of the substance of the movie.

I feel like making some Carl Brutananadilewski-esque video blogs, COS I'M PISSED!

Yeah because there's never been sex in Star Trek before.

    "Fully Functional"

Yeah because all sexual references are pornographic.

I didn't see any pornography in the trailer. 2 seconds of a sweaty chick in a bra, call the thought police.

Kirk got laid pretty often in the original series, things just weren't as graphic back then.

And there was even more sex in TNG. The "fully functional" scene was a drunk seduction involving a sexed up Tasha Yar.

One of those "smart" early episodes involved Wesley getting a death sentence on a planet where the inhabitants were scantily clad and "made love at the drop of a hat.. any hat."

    I could go on.

Is the upcoming reboot a departure from Roddenberry's original vision? Almost certainly. Is that bad? I don't know. But it can't be worse than the abortion that was Nemesis.

    btw: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ReOw_2f4lpY (I was amused.)

Unless you can stand Avril Lavigne, I'd turn the volume down.

Kira and Dax making out in there somewhere. Looks like a Jenna Jameson movie...

Maybe this new movie isn't breaking from Star Trek tradition much after all.

Who would want to watch a bunch of science officers sitting around in the middle of nowhere space talking theoretical physics for 2 hours? Gotta have something to spice it up.

ps I've never been a fan of Star Trek, so I could care less how "good" or "bad" this movie is.

Uh, sure, if you want to call a plot spicy ;)

I would agree though, even lots of spicy heaving racks, eye-popping visual effects and violence and gore gets boring without something with teeth to back it up.

The unshaven look is such a terrible cliche:

    http://www.cnn.com/2009/SHOWBIZ/04/09/red.carpet.closeup/index.html

A couple reviews are trickling in from the premiere:

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0796366/usercomments

So far people seem to be impressed by the character development, overall structure and form, and the fight scenes. This shows a glimmer of promise. I am waiting for some indication about the mentality of the film. After the trailers and early reviews the movie still strikes me as being a war boner which would be entirely inappropriate for the star trek universe. Reviewers are saying that Abrams has reinvented the star trek universe with this movie which also makes me worry.
