Here's the official statement (from Areat Summit):
    Here are some scary testimonials:
The Lurker Lounge: forums - Severe instability of US East. Screwed up items.

Best way to be safe until this is resolved is to not join games with any characters whose items you care about. If you are in a game, leaving the game as you're being dropped might make the problem worse.

    Hope everyone's characters are ok.

From what I here Blizzard is having an optional rollback, ie you decide whether you want to be rolled back or not. I don't know how they'd accomplish this though.

don't worry, you won't loose everything. blizzard always keeps backups. you might loose a couple days worth of stuff at most, but not everything.

hmm, I'll need to check to see if anybody got screwed up. Most of my time was spent with the new pally though.

As for W3 being delayed. After further testing, Blizz found that it was too stable. So they went back to the drawing board to screw up the balance and "tweak" things with their crowbars. :D ;)

Olon just gave me a bunch of stuff for my pally team Paladin that day - just before I was dropped. The character was only a day old. It is frustrating, but like Olon wrote in another thread, low level twink gear is something that is easily replaced or lived without.

    C'est la vie.:(

(I hope I spelled that right)

an optional roll back would not be a smart thing for blizzard to do, can you say dupe-o-rama?

    http://www.battle.net/forums/diablo2-realmstatus/posts/nh/195.shtml

The Battle.net Team has successfully identified and repaired the
problem affecting the U.S. East realm. Many characters played after
8:00 P.M. PDT (UTC -8) lost some or all items. This was caused by a
bug in the Diablo II server software.

The Battle.net team is in the process of rolling back all characters
affected by this issue to before 8:00 P.M. PDT (UTC -8). All missing
    items will be restored.

NOTE: Any U.S. East Realm character changes made after 8:00 P.M. PDT
(UTC -8) Tuesday, July 24th until 11:30 P.M. PDT (UTC -8) will be
    lost.

The rollback process is expected to take several hours. As a result,
the U.S. East realm will stay offline until later today. Please
    check back for further updates.

    -The Battle.net Team

Thanks for that update Oni. Looks like I can log in again now (or whenever east comes back online). :D

Since it's a limited realm-wide rollback, it looks like we'll avoid the "dupe-o-rama" that another partial rollback would have caused.

As for Auto and his several hours of lost powerleveling... ask b.net for a replacement case of Mountain Dew to compensate you. ;)

Warcraft 3 has been out of my radar, but a delay probably makes it less likely that my computer will be able to handle it (despite blizzard being very good with minimum requirements in general).

On a totally tangential note, I'm quite pissed about no mac scenario builder tools for NeverwinterNights. I might still be able to design pre-made scenarios using VPC for OS X, but I doubt VPC will be able to handle the real-time adjustments required to be a hands-on DM. :(

    WHAT?!!!

I've been a little too busy to keep up with the upcoming releases, so this is totally new to me.
Have they bothered releasing some sort of reason why they plan on only letting us play half of the game?

Methinks I feel a letter coming on, after I gather a little more info.

np on the update. Just in the right place at the right time. :)

Here's a link on that disappointing NWN news:
    MG News July 23rd 2001

Basically, they're making the toolset using Borland Builder software that is still not available for linux/macs.

Realm lag doesn't affect starcraft, warcraft II or warcraft III since the bnet servers take care of the chat but the actual game is hosted off your computers, bnet doesn't do anything other than sit and record what's happening. That's why you can still play when you lose your connection to battle.net but your stats aren't saved.
