    :wtf:

'newer' implies 'better'. yes you did. i didn't.

your computer meets the minimum requirements dude. what are the minimum requirements for quake 3? yeah, you can run quake 3 on a tray loading 333 iMac with a 6MB Rage Pro card but it runs like shit.

(my bad, i didn't see your system specs in your sig. :bonk: )

For kicks, I just installed RTCW on my old PowerMac 8500. Ive tweaked it so that now it actually runs ok. I joined a 16 player MP game and was able to kick some butt. The config is:

    PowerMac 8500
G3/500 1MB backside cache upgrade card
    384 MB Ram
    Voodoo 3 16MB video card
    MacOS 9.1

Does anybody know if there is a way to get bots in a multiplayer game?

 D2 was constant 60 fps no matter the situation on my Voodoo 5. With my Radeon I have to run in software because D3D was hacked in at the last minute and sucks; on my Mac, OpenGL, well, let's not even go there...

Welcome to the world of ports Haite. Thats how almost all the games come out for the Mac - they are 'hacked in at the last minute and sucks'. Were used to it thou.

Jakeman, so what of the System Requirements. Asypr substantially raised them for the release because of the lousy port.

Anyway, I have just about given up on Westlake ported games. I am going to stop buying them for now. They have ruined the Mac game market.

do you have anything to back up these claims about mac ports? i'm not convinced.

Yes. Every single mac port has had sub par performance.

...because of the coding or because of mac hardware? i am questioning spike's claim that the coding is to blame. he even claims quake 3 was a bad port. i don't see how he can think that about quake 3 of all games.

Both. Look at Giants for mac. There are a lot of cut corners in that game. Especially the skins, they look like crap.

that's because most all of the advanced graphical features in giants for mac are disabled because of lack of support for those features in the mac implementation of opengl under OS X. the direct result of this is decreased visual quality and increased performance compared to if those features were enabled.

Oh. Then I guess we can blame the code, the hardware and Apple.

Sadly yes, however Apple is working on that by looking to be one of the first systems to change to OpenGL 2.0 when it comes out.

jake, it's always code. take some more programming classes, and you will see. I don't know if it is also always hardware, because I haven't taken many engineering classes yet.

there are many things that contribute to game performance besides the game code itself. i don't think spike knows enough to make that judgment.

    video card
    video card drivers
    operating system
    background tasks
rendering used and the quality of that rendering tech on the platform you are using
sound (since macs currently do not have any way to offload sound processing, SB cards don't count cos they suck :p )
and finally, the game code itself.
