I know the old system did not refresh the 4s ignite timer on a roll:

    0 seconds: *ignite proc*
    2 seconds: 200 tick
    3 seconds: *ignite proc*
    4 seconds: 400 tick
    *both ignites die*

I thought the patch made it so each ignite has an independant timer:

    0 seconds: *ignite proc*
    2 seconds: 200 tick
    3 seconds: *ignite proc*
    4 seconds: 400 tick
    *first ignite dies*
    6 seconds: 200 tick
    *second ignite dies*

But I just read a post that says the rolls refresh the timer and stack damage:

    0 seconds: *ignite proc*
    2 seconds: 200 tick
    3 seconds: *ignite proc*
    4 seconds: 400 tick
    5 seconds: *ignite proc*
    6 seconds: 600 tick

Which mechanic does it use now?

Haven't paid much attention to it to tell you the truth. Supposedly there is a mod out there that will track it for you.

The third one but it'll only credit 1 person for the ignite proc (seems like the last person to crit). There's a cap on it though. My highest proc was a little more than 23k off Chromaggus but with 6 fire mages we consistently have around 2k procs on any other bosses that aren't fire immuned.

Now I understand why fire mages are the new raiding build. I didn't know about this new mechanic.

Heh, yeah fighting Chromag or the Death Talon packs when they're fire vulnerable is wonderful for one's epeen. One of our mages saves his trinkets and stuff for when he sees a fire vulnerable Talon so he can brag about his 6k Pyroblast crits. We won't discuss how many times he's pulled aggro that way. (And no, it's not me.)

Seems that recently the standard raid build is the 10/38/3 build or builds similar to this. Some prefer combustion since it does help in boss fights. Also there are varieties with people switching 5 points out of fire for Magic Absorption.

Yeah I've seen that build. I personally don't prefer three tree builds because I happen to think the mages' most useful talents are the 21-point ones. (Ice Block, Presence of Mind, Blastwave). Once you're into three trees you can only get one of those talents. For the same reason I have no 31-point talents, and currently don't plan to have 41-point talents come BC time.

That said, I recently gave up Blastwave and respecced to 0/30/21 and I'm fairly happy with it in a raid scenario. Imp Fireball and Impact at the same time is a little unconventional, but I found I was rarely using Pyroblast when I don't have PoM, and two other mages in our raids have Imp Scorch so mine was redundant. Soooo, I took those 5 points and put them into Impact, which is always nice in PvP, and it helps on Sartura. I miss Blastwave though, so I may settle for 3/5 Impact and get Pyro and BW back.

Unconfirmed report that ignites no longer roll and stack in the expansion. Instead each mage gets their own debuff slots for fire dots. There are also 40 debuff slots in the expansion instead of 16.

    Whining ensues.

Let them whine. Ignite is now working as intended. Good change IMO. Lame ass Scorch Mages will no longer be able to own the meters by exploiting, and instead will be judged solely on their own damage output.

And before I get the "it's not about invidual damage, it's about raid damage" response, spare me. Most players are not that altruistic. Even if they are, 4k ignite ticks are not what Blizzard had in mind, so deal with it.

I read, on the forums, that the lack of rolling ignites was a bug in beta. A hotfix was issued, and now they roll again.....if what I saw is correct anyway :-)
