    Archer
    Attack: Pierce - 31 avg
    Cooldown: 1.5
    Heath: 260
    Range: 70
    Armor: Small - 6

    Gryphon Rider
Attack: Pierce - 68 avg (Splash)
    Cooldown: 2.2
    Heath: 900
    Range: 45
    Armor: Large - 6

Pierce damage deals 75% damage to Small Armor units, and 150% damage to Large Armor units.

    So,

Gryphon Rider deals 51 damage, Archers deal 46.5 damage. No it basicall comes down to numbers, and how well the players control their units. (and of course, the suprise factors, the terrain, ect, ect...)

Just as long as Archer player has 50% more then the Gryphon player, he should be able to take them out.

Not to mention the Trueshot aura of the Priestess which can give up to a 30% bonus in damage.

The best ways to counter Gryphons are not the brute force appoach though.

Archer= can have about 40 of em if you have 20 workers

    Gryphon= 20

34 x 40? if all of the archers fire at the same target: 1360 damage per round.

although i must say gryphons are very fun to use..... (tried it the other day)

    who fights like that, though?

I haven't played many melee games, but do people really build huge armies? I always thought groups of 12 (11 units + hero) was the best, and most common way to play.

I think more common is 2 groups of 12, though some people still use the Starcraft tactic of Mass a crapload of units and throw them against your enemy until their dead.

Damn tactic still works, unless your enemy play very defensivley.
