Seriously, wouldn't it be cool if you just plopped a quicktime plugin in your browser's plugin's folder and it handled everything? (shockwave, avi, flash, etc.). They should also get with the Bink people and incorporate .exe video file support. It also needs DIVX support. That would rock!

Well they cover AVI, and Shockwave and Flash are the same thing, and is patented by Shockwave so I don't know what Apple would have to do to implement it. Other then Shockwave files, is there anything Quicktime doesn't cover as far as online media goes? At least nothing on my computer, I don't believe. As far as Bink goes, I don't mind having a seperate app to read exe movies, but they could clean it up a little, Bink Player seems a little crude and inefficient to me.

I have never been able to play avis with QT. Re: Shockwave and Flash... oh yeah! DOH! I still want DIVX though. All the Mac DIVX codecs and players I've downloaded don't work worth crap.

There's so many proprietary codecs out there that aren't translated for the mac that making all AVI's work would be problematic...

the only problem with DivX on Mac now is the MP3 sound track used by most encoders. There are progs to fix that problem.

I'd rather see the sorenson codec used in so many trailers and videos commoditized into a common, open codec so I could use it in any media player I wanted, providing the people responsible provided an implementation for the given player.

I especially don't like Apple's Quicktime GUI, although as a plugin, GUIs don't get in the way much anyhow.
