Just switched to X, and its great and all, but how do I un-clutter the text for the toolbar favorites in Explorer?

    More questions will prolly follow.

How do I change the label for something in the Dock without actually renaming the file?

    Explorer:

I'm gonna guess that this is what you mean:

    - Go to the "favorites" menu up top.
    - Click "Organize Favorites".
    - Expand "Toolbar Favorites".
    - Add/Remove Items at will. (Add items just like bookmarks & right click items for options.)

    Dock:

I just create an alias somewhere with the name that I like and drag it to the dock. Unfortunately this shows the "alias arrow" on the dock. So I guess you just rename the app? Not sure...

Yeah, that's what I was talking about. The Favorites Toolbar is part of the bookmarks (Favorites) file.

Which by the way is located in here:

    <username> | Library | Preferences | Explorer

    (Favorites.html)

Any link placed into the "Toolbar Favorites" section will appear in the "Favorites Toolbar" that you showed me in that TIFF.

Oh.... You should have said something like spacing...

It looks exactly the same on mine. They're supposed to be spaced that much apart and in one row. I suppose you could always rename each of them in the organize favorites section and add a few extra spaces to the end of their names. That way they have extra spacing between each other.

Edit: Or rename them like cow stated.

Who knows, you can just click and rename them. I have mine set to

MacGamer AtAT CARSS xlr8 MacAddict VT MOSR MacSlash msc cowofwar cp AI Forums /. Ars FARK satirewire

You can organize them by going to favorites in the menu then organize favorites. It's in toolbar favorites.

I don't know about you, but your toolbar looks the same as Cow's and mine. (Except that Cow's letters are a little more blurry. Perhaps higher font smoothing? Also we have more spacing on the left and right sides but I assume that's just how your cropped the image.)

    Here's mine:

To fix it, I had to change the anti-aliasing something or other to 8 instead of 9 in the system prefs.

Had to reinstall X today. Good advice: never mess with the permissions of system files.
