    Indeed. :D

Speaking of FFX, would it be worth shelling out the buckage for a PS2 just to play that game? I liked FF7 and thought FF8 was okay. Never played FF9.

It's not as if I haven't been spending enough cash lately, but I'm getting a promo at work and a raise to go with it. So what do I do? Spend it, of course!

I never got into the FF deal...and probably never will. People call me stupid, but I call myself a person with a little more free time.

Also, the last console I bought was PS1 when it first came out, and it's been sitting there collecting dust for, oh, about 3 years now. I still think twisted metal 1 & 2 are the best games made for it.

And I wanna get the hookup on an old original NES. Mine broke and I never beat Super Mario Brothers 2.

    That's what I did.
Though I am a bit of a FF junkie.

FFX has a lot of nice improvements and some really poorly executed stuff.
If I weren't such a fan of the "series" I wouldn't have picked up the station just to play it.

Okay, FFX aside, is it worth shelling out for the PS2 in general? Or should I stick to playing games on my Mac? Just ordered Civ 3, looking forward to it.

All depends upon what ya like to do... the console gaming systems have a different feel to them, and you can get a lot more games to play...

The graphics of PS2 games are simply awesome... I only have played Grand Turismo III, BG: Dark Alliance, ATV Off-Road Challenge... and they are all simply stunning...

ZOE is a good game, but the singleplayer story is too short. The multiplayer is a pretty cool fighting game, but the characters are unbalanced.

MGS:SoL is a good game, too.

I think it is worth it.

just depends on your own personal game time/ value ratio and comfort zone of your financial accounts. ;)

    as for Civ 3....
last I heard was that there is no multiplayer. That still true?

    Apparently it is. :(

I thought it had multiplayer, but civ3.com says not yet. I'm sure they are working on it, hopefully those of us who buy the original edition won't have to invest in a "Gold Edition" just to get multiplayer, a la Civ 2. In any case, we may or may not be able to multiplay with Windows users, their version of Civ 3 uses DirectX. Who wants to play with them anyhow? :D

Back to consoles for a moment: I have also been considering GameCube. I grew up on Nintendo games like Mario Bros, Zelda, Metroid, etc. If and when I do get a console, I will only get one. X-Box is right out. Thoughts on GameCube vs. PS2? I wonder in the long run if Nintendo will be able to compete with the juggernauts that are Microsoft and Sony, regardless of how good their stuff is. (Maybe Apple and Nintendo should team up.)
