    There were places that had discounted copies, dunno if they still do...
    you might want to visit the apple store and check out the 'Mac OS up to date' program...

    but you get it for free if you buy a new mac ;)

    Techincally no, you get os x. You don't get a copy of the dev tools. And that ain't cool :(

    You don't? You'd think Apple would make that standard. Granted, not everyone is going to roll their own binaries, but it's quite useful to have if you want to go poking around...

    That's even more than a copy of Winblows 9x/ME. What a rip-off!Wait, Microsoft rips you off for shitty software. Apple rips you off, but at least you get some decent software.

    Me is $199, so is 98 at most places. 98 price is negotiable depending on the vendor since it's discontinued.

    All versions of Windows have Product keys and copy protection. All versions of Mac OS including X don't have either or these.

    Wow, ME is even more than I thought. And I forgot about the cd keys and copy protection.

    All this makes me want to go get a copy of Linux...
