Just how easy do you suppose it will be to port *nix applications to OS X and vice versa? Considering how similar they are, it wouldn't seem like it would be that difficult. If it isn't too hard, maybe more companies will port software to *nix. Wouldn't that be wonderful!

Anything that plays friendly in POSIX land will be fine, as long as its clean between architecture changes and such.

Same goes for a POSIX app written in OSX -> another Unix.

Of course, tools that are more specific to individual Unixes will need tweaking, and there's still plenty of stuff floating around out there that can't identify OSX in the configure script.

hmmm.... does the POS in POSIX mean something besides the common interpretation? [common interp==Piece du merde (pardon my French)]

[moviequote]I do not think it means what you think it means[/moviequote]

POSIX: Acronym for portable operating system
    interface for computer environments.

Anyways, the only Unix apps I see companies porting anytime soon are commandline apps, and I'm not so sure that appeals to much more than just a niche market within the niche Macintosh market.
