I was using OS X on a new G4 today, and I started up a terminal emulator. Much to my surprise, Apple has left almost all of the Unix filesystem intact. Even more to my surprise, Unix commands were still intact. And if 10.1 has major speed improvements, and there is software being developed, Apple has one bitchin' OS on their hands...

I've only used 10.0.0.4, and it was unacceptably slow to me. I want to try out X.1 and see what happens.

the difference between 10.0.4 and 10.1 is huge on my g4. it prolly won't be as big of a speed increase on your g3, but it will be very noticable i'm sure.

powerhouse, if you liked 10.0.4 then you will definatly like 10.1. i hope you get a chance to use it some time.

Why? 99% of pc users are ignorant of the fact that os x exists. They still associate mac with slow and low performance.

Thats what it has been up until 10.1. Arguably, it still is.

Besides, the 1% that are knowing could be more than the entire Macintosh user base. :D

When you make that statement, you didn't specify the 99% vs 1%. You just make the sweeping assumption that all the people using PCs run something inferior to Classic MacOS, meanwhile, alot of people have been enjoying superior OS technologies for a long time.

It is the Mac users who are rising out of the dark ages, in terms of OS design.

Using Classic MacOs up til i got X was hell.

And then X was unacceptably slow for interactive use.

/me awaits 10.1 with bated breath
