me like much.
much better than the crappy old ones.. finally a consumer portable that consumers will BUY.
And one that fits in conventional docking stations .
...and very reasonably priced for a portable.
They are nice. I am kicking around getting one, but I probably won't.
BTW, any other big news from the Apple "press event?" Or was the new iBook the BIG April announcement that Auto got us all worked up over?
os x 10.0.2
whats not big about the new iBooks?
I'm seriously thinking about getting one. Either that or I'll get one after MWNY 2001 when they come with OS X prebundled (...would be nice).
I can't wait until my local macstation gets some in stock. Then I'm gonna take a trip down and beg my mom to buy me one. Or buy one for herself, then I'll commandeer it
Don't get me wrong, they are sweet. I want one. But a month ago you made it seem like there would be some earth-shattering news that we would all just be amazed over. No offense, but if the new iBooks were it, then I must say you over-hyped them a bit. That, and it wasn't that big a surprise, since every Mac site in the universe told us they were coming, and the old model was getting a little long in the tooth.
Nothing personal Auto, I just wasn't as wowed as I hoped to be.
yup, my next comp will be an ibook. I think this thing will be more succesful than the imac personnally. I think this is jobs best release yet...
$300 for a CD-RW though.... ouch....
anyway, anyone wanna buy an imac 333 for $500?
$500? hmm.... what flavor
bleh, 333s have a 6MB Rage Pro right? It's the ultimate Nanosaur card, but not ideal for Quake.
And to add the Voodoo 2 to the 333s you have to point solder because they took out the mezzanine connector.
I'll use my deskstop to burn cds thank you very much. I wouldn't burn cds in a laptop unless it has a huge-ass buffer.
Please tell me my eyes are playing tricks on me!
Is that a single button under the mousepad?!?!?!!? If it is it may be THE stupidest thing I have seen Apple do yet. We have a 2 button OS now, it think it is time for them to acknowledge it!
Oh, I forgot to add that it does make me think different about getting one. If that isn't some sort of a rocker button (so it will actually have 2 buttons) I really think that I would shy away from one. I really hate this one button BS. I hate it hate it hate it hate it hate it hate it!
The whole computer acts like a mouse. Each of the four corners when pushed act like a seperate mouse button. And if you push on the screen REALLY HARD, you can push the fifth, secret, programmable mousebutton.
lol @ sparhawk
I like one button, except for gaming.
I do really like it for gaming, but I use my left button frequently when I am navigating the desktop. It is something I have gotten used to and like. I figure if there is a function that can controlled by a simple mouse click, why make us use a second hand to do the same thing? They built the functionality into the OS. I could understand one button if it was a 3rd party addition, but they added the function!
As much as I hate to do it, I have to agree with Moose. OS X (and for that matter OS 9) seems to be designed for a two-button mouse. It's much more convenient to right-click than it is to control-click. It may sound like a small detail, but it's all the small details that add up to a good product. If I had my heart set on an iBook, I doubt the lack of a second button would stop me from getting it, but I can understand Moose's frustration. I am not sure why Apple is dead set against a second mouse button, but they seem to be.
