Check it out... not too shabby
wicked fast 11MBps
It's now a router, is that the only difference? If you already have one, there's not enough improvement to justify getting another one
Yeah, I almost choked on my drink when I saw that one on their page.
What's the point of offering gigabit ethernet on pro machines when the airports can only handle 0.011 gigabit ethernet.
That's megabit! That's like 1.3 megabytes per second. Not bad for regular internet but crap for a LAN.
think about it... jedsia has a cable modem right? 1.3 Mb/sec is MUCH faster than the average cable connection.. also now it does just what she needs it for... but uhh right this would be for her post... but the coolest feature to me is the 50 users... thats up from what... 7?
It was 10 users before. 128 bit encryption is nice, 11Mbit is certainly fast enough for my internet (the cable modem only has a 10baseT port anyway).
They are going to have to add 802.11a support eventually - it is 50 times faster than 802.11b. The problem is they are not compatable, but can coexist. 802.11a uses 5.0 GHz, and b uses 2.4 GHz.
i'm sure apple could develop some sort of conversion for the two standards in the basestation.
or offer a combo basestation using both standards. that is something that would make me buy a new one. I already have one and I don't think the improvements justify a purchase at this time.
well you can mod it yourself... but wtf... better to wait right
Well, here is some info : http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/5/22815.html
This seems to be a pretty severe limitation of 802.11a:
Blocked by walls? It won't be very useful in the home then. In an office full of cubicals maybe, but I have walls in my house.
weird(ing), mine doesn't
i want a hippy pad with no walls... just bead curtains everywhere.
Reminds me of this one time my friend's dad started having LSD flashbacks while driving. Was funny as hell.
you been watching the Real World again Jake?
i only saw that show once when my step sister was watching it... looked pretty lame.
