    Look what's in Apple labs:

    866MHz-1000MHz G4s!!
New towers (no handles; think the new 17" Studio Display)!!
    UMA2 motherboards with:
    133MHz frontside DDR bus!!
    36-bit memory addressing!!
4 PC-2100 DDR SDRAM slots, supports up 4GB!!
4 PCI-X slots!! Apple first to offer!
1 AGP Pro slot (20% more bandwidth than 4X AGP)!!
    ATA/66??
FireWire2 (IEEE 1394B; 800Mbs)!! Apple first to offer!
    Built in Airport!!

Prototypes are very mature and boards should go into production next month. Apple's back in the game! :D

Looking good, but i'm waiting until the G5 for my next purchase (of course). I'm getting one after MWNY 2003, right before i go to college. But this is looking good.

Now what kind of advantage will the PCI-X slots have?

Sources! I don't need no stinking sources!!

My information happens to come from a janitor at Apple. :p

PCI-X is an addendum to the PCI-2.2 spec. It uses a 64-bit data bus like its older brother, but offers much higher clock speeds. Sawtooth G4s are the only computers that even use the 2.2 spec. PC still use 1.0!!

Here's a list of all the specs:

    PCI-1.0 32-bit data bus; 66 or 33MHz; 264 or 132MB/s; PCs use 33MHz version
    PCI-2.2 64-bit data bus; 66 or 33MHz; 528 or 264MB/s; Sawtooth G4s use 33Mhz version
    PCI-X 64-bit data bus; 133, 100, or 66MHz; 1064, 800, 528MB/s

All three specs support any PCI card.

    Hope this helps. :)

I'm a bit doubtful about the DDR SDRAM bit, but apple already uses ata/66. I'd like to see apple grasp ata/100 for those video professionals who need fast drives.

The next G4s WILL use DDR SDRAM. By moving to a faster frontside bus, 133MHz DDR (266MHz effectively), and dual 7450s, PC133 SDRAM won't cut it. The CPUs will run data starved without faster RAM.

As for IDE dirve support. The current prototypes use ATA/66, but they can be updated to ATA/100 very easily. Since there are no serial ATA compatible drives on the market yet, there's no point in moving to that spec.

Though I belive this to be a pipe dream, it would be nice... I would definitely buy one of those, and from the Apple store too... but I would get the 3 year warrenty, cuzz when your on the bleeding edge, it helps to have some bandaids...

I really want to go. I don't know which access "package" to get. Which one is what I want? I want to see all the vendor stuff and wouldn't mind seeing the keynote (though I wouldn't die if I didn't). I just want to see all the new products coming down the pipe.

What would you all recommend I sign up for?
