    He is a good zinger, but I wouldn't call that debate by any stretch of the imagination. It is far too unstructured, too personal, and too insulting to the opposition. He is not going to convince anyone that way.

    Sam Gold doesn't like being insulted even if it is deserved. You have to adopt his perspective and incorporate it into your argument so as to not offend but rather respectfully inform.

    I have always thought he could tone it down just a little bit.

    however

    i think he had the right to get personal in this video though. The US gov't was trying hard (and hypocriticly) to tarnish him.

    But he validated the attacks against him with more of the same. There is no better way to make some one look like an ass than by responding to their personal attacks with kindness and understanding. Most personal attacks of the nature shown in that video require a validating response from the accused. A hostile response is validating. A kind and understanding response is invalidating and forces self-correction on the attacker. Once the air is cleared then you can start having a worthwhile debate.
