I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop. On of my friends dumped soda on it, so my keyboard and trackpad are dead. the computer still runs, but I had to remove it from the case.

I'm getting a new one, but I was wondering if I could use the monitor as a desktop monitor or video screen or something. Anyone know anything or where to start looking for info?

No doubt you would need some type of hardware to convert the internal video cable to a standard desktop connection. I have never seen anything like this.

and it would need a power source, too. the connector to the motherboard is 50 pins, and I'm not sure if it is proprietary.

At the very least you'd need a VGA-LVDS converter which will probably run you $150 or so. Then, expect endless tinkering and research... it's just cheaper to buy a new display.

So, now my laptop's almost dead. The screen's all funky and stuff. After some finagling, Apple's decided to give me a brand new MacBook Pro. Woot woot!
