    Math 155: 81% class mean 61%

Sucks because you need 154 to take 155. So all the people who failed or want to retake 154 aren't in 155; only the people who did well. This brings up the curve, but i'm still better than they are.

I was, to say, irresponsible for the first half of this school year, so i didn't absorb any information much at all. I crammed a semesters worth of learning into each nite before a midterm...so they would be good, but not perfect. I have excellent capabilities but my work ethics suck. Changing that around already and shooting for straight A's this semester.

High school freshmen year midterms are....

    Science: C
English: C (great expectations by charles dickens... ugh, that killed me bigtime.)
    Algebra 1: B
    French 1 : B
    US History 2: B

I'm taking honors courses next year if i'm still in public school. my teachers say i should be getting straight A's.

Why do people take honors, AP, IB, etc? There's no point, it just drops your GPA and the universities don't recognize it. You're just making it harder on yourself to get into a good post secondary institution.

How? The course is harder, if you did the same amount of work for principles of math 12 as you did in principles of AP math 12 you'd get a higher mark. Higher mark translates to a higher GPA.

And courses in high school that give you university credit are a joke. You miss out on half the material that the university course would provide.

In our school a certain percentage of GPA is given to you to balance the difficulty of the course. So a 76 would become a 79 etc.

Most schools here look favorably on AP vs regular classes, even if your GPA is lower. They know that doing harder work is better than having an easy time in less difficult classes at preparing you for college.

My High School was on a 5 point scale, but advanced classes counted as 1 point higher - A 'B' in them was worth 5 points. This led to some people having above a 5.0 average though.

    Weighting. Crazy, but it happens.

I think just about anywhere looks favorably on AP, and IB is a must if you intend to leave your country.

weighting rules. The isea is that an A or B in an AP course not only gives you college credit (assuming 3,4, or 5 on the AP) but also gives a 4 GPA for a B and a 5 for an A intead of 3/4, respectively. My GPA as a second-semester senior is 4.07, w/o weights it would be 3.42 lol. The 5 I got on the ChemAP means I don't have to take Chemistry 101 in college... thats a year's worth of credit. makes college cheaper when you don't take as many classes

and the colleges only look at the weighted (at least the ones I applied to, Cornell, Purdue, UCLA, Cal Poly San Lusi Obispo and Harvey Mudd)

I took grade 11 chem, bio and physics; and grade 12 bio and physics. Even without the grade 12 chem I still didn't have to take chem 100 or 101. I started with chem 111 last semester and moved on to chem 121 this semester.

Why would you not want to take the lower level courses? You get more than you would from the high school equivalent and if you already have done most of the content it's easy marks to bring up your GPA.

It doesn't work that way Stateside. You only get college credit for above-academic classes. If he had taken regular classes like you then he would have to start at the beginning in college, no questions asked.
