There are two rooms, completely sealed from each other. In one room, there are three lightbulbs. In the other room, there are three switches for those lightbulbs. If you only go into each room once, how do you find out which switch controls which lightbulb?

/me takes it as a riddle

You can't, because they're sealed off from eachother

/me takes it as common sense

    Open up the wall

    /me takes it mathematically

    /me shrugs

Open the wallswitch and short out one connection. This blows one bulb. Turn one of the other switches on. Go look.

 OMFG!!! I was asked that question at a job interview on Tuesday. Except in this version the wall switches didn't stay on. I was talking about this at work yesterday. ha ha ha.

    I got it right. :D

    Try this one:

A man buys a house in 1980 (before most of you were born). The yard is 100' by 100'. Every year from April to November he mows his lawn on Saturday. He follows the exact same path each time. He also does not change the landscaping of the yard. Every year he takes his lawnmover in for a tune-up. In the year 2001 he asks his mechanic, "I have been mowing my lawn the same way for 20 years and I've noticed it takes a lot more gas to mow the lawn than it used to. Why?"

Does the yearly tune-up include blade sharpening? If not then that's why.
