I am trying to use CompUSA 80 min. CD-Rs with the CD-RW/DVD drive in my sister's iBook. I've tried using Toast and the OS 9 & X built-in burning program, but the writer writes for a while then gives an error. I have used some regular 74 min. CD-Rs without any problems. I bought a 50-pack of these CDs, I have 31 left. I was able to burn a few before, but I can't anymore.

    so...

    74 min: always worked
80 min: used to work, now they don't

    aroo? :retard:

dunno man. you could see if apple will replace the drive under warranty for that problem. for iBooks i usually recommend that the customer contact apple and facilitate it directly from their house... it's faster. (all iBook repairs are in house)

Hmmm, I've never used anything but the 80 min in mine. Do you have Applecare?

get rid of those toast extenstions!! they cause all sorts of problems with disk burner in OS 9..

what kind of CDs are you burning? a lot of drives have trouble doing DAO audio disks.

just regular CD-R stuff, data cds. I am going to try using iTunes to burn an audio cd and see if that works. The only successful burns using the 80 min CDs was an image of BroodWar (the image didn't work, must be some copy protection or something) and a data cd. The data cd was burned in 2 sessions, only the first session was completed.

I finally solved my problem. I bought a 50 cd spindle of Imation 80 min cds, and they work fine. The problem may be with that batch of cds, the whole brand, or just the burner not liking that brand.

I will probably trade the school-supplied cdrs that my mom has in her classroom for the compusa ones, if they work on her cdrw drive. I won't have lost all the money I spent on the first spindle
