I have it installed on my server. I'm gonna spend the next couple of days tweaking with it and getting the styles all right and stuff. When I get it in good visual form I will import all the threads and member files from this board into vBulletin's MySQL database. I'll keep you guys informed.

I am already very impressed with the customizability of vBulletin. Plus the speed increase due to the MySQL backend is very noticable.

I just "transferred" over the style settings of this board to vB. It looks a lot like this board now... but with all those little extras. Should I leave the style and color settings the same as this board? Do you guys like the colors on this board?

seriously guys. I have no imagination when it comes to these things. This board's colors I got just by putting in random colors until I thought it looked good. Plus, I'm a guy. Guys don't know how to match colors! [IMG]

...this morning I added a few custom smilies to the vB. I'm gonna have a fat list of smiley emotion icons to use.

Colors are easy, just pick from one of the preferred sets.

For example, certain shades of yellow on black convey certain things (ie yellow like the alert triangle smiley, or another shade of yellow like you'd find in the Shell oil logo, kinda edging towards a darker yellow).

Red, black and white work well together. So do complimentary colors (purple and yellow, etc). It's a yin/yang balance thing ie a dark, heavy color (purple) and a light, sharp color (bright yellow) go together, etc.

How about silver and graphite (like the G4)? Or titanium and white (like the new PowerBook)? [IMG]

I've always thought black, dark forest green and a dark blue go nice together.

Depends on how dark the green and blue are. It can be hard to read if it's not the right tint. I like the gold tint of the submission page. Gold and grey would be nice, teal thrown in as well here and there. Add a chaize and an ottoman and you're there, dha-ling! Gawd! Heh. [IMG]

you've got lots of decent suggestions already. Just be careful when choosing colors to avoid eye gouging combos. [IMG]

and keep in mind that text shows up a little differently on each color. White text might look great on a navy blue, but can hardly be seen on peach. Then again, that's probably pretty obvious. [IMG]

whatever you do, DONT make the text black-on-white. that makes too many white colors on the screen, so it hurts people's eyes to look at it for so long. I like the iMac flavors idea though. make all of them but Snow.

I love the sage iFruit, er, iMac. If I had the dough I'd buy one and run it as my web server.
