Why would you need that much? Do you create disk images and put them on RAM disks just to boost speed?

the results of this poll are very similar to the poll on arstechnica... the vast majority of people have 512MB of RAM.

The target audience of Arstechnica is not casual users.

A lot of us are, advanced computer enthusiasts. You're pretty much into their target, as you're about to build a computer. The peak audience is the people with the cutting edge gaming boxes and their tricked out case windows with glow strips on the inside. It's a computer hot-rodder's and elite-ist's site.

I just bought a 512MB stick at CompUSA for $30 after rebate (gotta love those after-Thanksgiving sales)

which changes my vote to 512 (even though my total is now 896MB)

yeah, super crowded. I went an hour before they opened and then stood in line to pay for another 30 minutes. the clerk was stupid and slow.

nothing compared to Best Buy. it is insane. I didn't even go this year, the line wrapped around the store. the Target line was past CompUSA.

I got some compressed air, too (free with rebate). That is all the shopping I'm doing today.
