I found a copy of WC3 and a serial, can't play online of course as the serial/account isn't mine and I'm just evaluating the game as there is no demo... So I'm playing single player and doing okay playing the campaign so far. BUT, when i go to free play mode the computer just kicks my ass all over hell. I shut off fog of war and they don't appear to have all that many gold miners etc, but they crank out big fast units and have level 7 heros while mine are level 4.

Any suggestions how to beat the computer in single player pickup games?

Is it better to have one kickin' hero or multiple?

I have trouble moving and using large groups of units, is there a way to group or select all on screen etc without just mousing around?

    Thanks for any tips!

Build lots of towers, that might help.

It´s better with many heros , at least I think so.

Ctrl+number ties the selected units to the number.
Double clicking on one type of unit will select all other units of that type (up to 12, I think it works that way, in SC it only selected the nearby units of the same type)

the computer is 100% efficient, it's that simple.

a good way to level your hero is by killing creeps around the map.

I was watchin some replays from other players on B NET: First structures are:

    1. Food Building (Farm, Burrow, etc)
    2. Hero Building
    3. Basic Troops Building (Barracks)

Get your hero in ASAP (Paladin, Death Knight, Blademaster) and only 2-4 troops, and start leveling immediately...The game is rushing, and rushing only. You play defense you'll get destroyed.

I would have only one hero for the entire game. You only have 90 food, and each hero chews up 5. (Damn slobs probably have feasts every night)

    Human/Orc Tactics I've seen:
Get your hero, make him the rally point for all units (besides peons and peasants) and as your troops die off as you level or fight your opponent, just produce more and hope there are no creeps in their way.

    Undead Tactics I've seen:
Ghouls aren't as effective as Footmen, or especially Grunts because of lower HP, and are needed to farm lumber. Crypt Fiends seem to do an excellent job, because they can snare flying units and take em down quick. Also Abominations have massive HP and good damage.

    Night Elf Tactics I've seen:
    Archers...loads of archers everywhere.

NO MATTER WHAT YOU PLAY!!! Siege equipment is essential no matter how you plan on destroying your opponents base!

Yea, the AI follows only one pattern, as mentioned above.

I was just watching this replay one day and I'm like "Why are all the troops going right for the hero? And I replayed it again, and saw he made the rally point the hero and I was like "Holy Crap...that's great"

    It's all I do now. :D
