Sometimes I download music videos, and even when one's size is like 50MB, I can only watch for some 10 seconds. It just stops as if it's over. I know there's more video in there, so how do I fix this?

A related issue. Once I was watching one while it was still download (chili peppers), and it played for say 2 minutes. Then when it was done, it played half of that, as if most of it disappeared or something.

what do you use as the video player. in my experiences Quick Time was a bit quirky in some older versions or playing some mepg's in general. Try using mplayer OSX 2 (i assume your using X, dunno if theres a 9 ver) It usually does the job for me, and it plays just about everything...except .ogg

my Macs have always done that on lots of my movies. My solution is the play them on my PC.

VideoLAN's VLC player is the best player in the world. You can find it at SourceForge I think. It's a bit involved though (not user friendly), so it's not really practical for smaller videos I guess. When you need to play a whole movie then nothing beats it.

VLC is the way to go.

    That's a terrible solution. :p

VLC sucks if you´re trying to watch somethingr from, say, the middle.
    It´s very inaccurate.

When I built my first PC and transferred over all my porn, I discovered that many of my movies were much longer than what I had viewed. My PC expanded my porn collection by like 20%.

...oh I mean my divx movies :uhh:

    lol!

Actually I never had that problem watching divx on the mac, I did have to run them through Divx Doctor to get Quicktime to play the sound and sometimes the iMac was not powerfull enough for the task but it always showed me the complete movie.
But this was ordinary movies, perhaps MacOS has a porn-filter. :nya:

I downloaded both VCL and mPlayer. Both of them showed the 102MB video in 10 seconds, with bits and pieces. Maybe it's something wrong with the video? Some of my videos are pretty long, but the only way to watch the fully is drag the little scroll thing back to the beginning after it's done playing. That takes me to the next part. And then some videos just freeze for some reason (long ones...).

Anyway, something's worrying me. I have about 500MB of free space on my hardisk, and it seems to be slowly decreasing. At the moment it's at 350. What's going on?

I've had this problem with quicktime on my PC. it's usually come up when I watch a partially completed download that finishes later, and I can still only watch it to the point where I did when it was downloading.

I would say if mplayer and VLC screw up, its a corrupt file. In theory, if you got it from a fast track network(mainly kazaa), and more than 1 user it could become easily corrupt. But somthing from a gnutella network(Limewire) is less likely to corrupt, and if it did it tells you that it got corrupt. and if you got it from a friend, who the hell knows where it came from. I would say toss em and start over.

did you regain this space when you restarted?

even before i had heard of VLC, i used quicktime to view DivXes fine... i just stayed up-to-date with the current divx plugins, and i don't recall ever having to convert anything to get it to play. now, i still prefer VLC for movie viewing, but there's nothing wrong with quicktime.

That's a good point; make sure your codecs are up to date. If you're trying to watch a video that's encoded in something less mainstream, like Xvid, then it may indeed be a version issue, as these are much more beta.

I never got the divx codecs working so I used 3ivx, so I had to do some converting, not that painful, pretty quick actually.
