    Highlights:
    - MMO.
    - free to play
    - windows only
    - currently in closed beta, release date not set.
    - no holy trinity (no tank / healer / dps roles). All professions are equal in their role-capacity. All professions can heal and resurrect.
    - dynamic quests. Basically that means quests come to you instead of the other way around. There isn't a strict quest progression through a zone. Rather you just come upon random quests while doing your own thing in the game.
    - player-driven narrative and progression. Your character's narrative is written down as you play, so you can go back and read the story of your character. And thanks in part to dynamic questing, your character's progression is whatever you want. There is no strict progression path that all players must follow. You can even grind to max level doing nothing but pvp.
    - content and level scaling. The content and/or level of your character is scaled appropriately. For example, you can help new characters do low level content, during which time your character's effective level is reduced so that you don't overpower the content. Similarly, you can choose to do higher level content which is scaled down for you. This means choice of content really comes down to player skill, not level, and there is no strict content progression. But of course harder content has better rewards.
    - competitive and noncompetitive pvp. Competitive pvp is fixed and balanced teams. All participants are scaled to max level so everyone is equal. You can do competitive pvp with lvl 1 characters thanks to level scaling. The noncompetitive pvp is a 3-way realm v realm v realm where it's basically a ffa, not balanced.
    - no flying mounts
    - your primary 5 skills are dependent on your weapon and environment. For example, when you switch weapons from a sword to a bow your primary 5 skills change. When you go under water your skills change. Your other 5 skills (for a total of 10 active) are selected by you.
    - no required grouping of players for normal content. Rather everyone who participates in an event or kill is automatically rewarded. There is no kill stealing and there is no need to explicitly form a group before doing content. Just do the content and you are rewarded without any extra consideration.
    - you can dodge ranged attacks. Combat involves actual movement and using skills while moving.
    - flat leveling curve.
    - there are gnomes. :D

Free to play, more than any other feature, is the most intriguing thing to me :)

I've been following the WvWvW pretty closely. Looks like a resurrection of DAOC

Somehow I knew Auto would already be following this game for its pvp. :p

Me too. But I need to setup a Windows install. I may even build a new system. I have been itching to build a mini-itx system and a new game is always a good excuse to build.

I didn't get it. I didn't play the beta or anything, but I began to be not very impressed with the information and videos. The game is too casual for me. Nothing committal or consequential about it that I have seen.

Interestingly, all of the reviews I have seen basically read like, "this game is good because it doesn't suck." Great attention is paid to the lack of time sinks and grinds. People are leveling by doing nothing but exploring and they think that's great. And of course people love the graphics. But nothing really substantial ever comes out. I feel like the game is more of a carefree recreational experience than a meaty game. But like I said, I haven't played it. It just doesn't grab me enough to buy it. They haven't sold me.

I am still playing Diablo 2.

FYI, not sure you've been following, but they recently did some improvements to D3 that were, in fact, improvements.

Legendaries are actually worth finding now and they got rid of some of the silly monster affixes (e.g. invulnerable minions) that were making later difficulties insane. The Paragon system, while not perfect, gives a reason to play after hitting max level.

It's still not up to D2's standards, but then it took D2 quite a while to get up to D2's standards as well. Anyway, thought you might be interested. D3 has a free to play demo now if you want to try it again.

Yeah I have been following all of the improvements.

If D3 ever exceeds D2 in playability then I will switch. But there are fundamental problems with D3 so I really don't see that happening. :(

    That's unfortunate.

I'm sort of a tweener between liking the grind (you've got to provide some challenge in entering end game content/a reason to log in every day), and being a casual player (doing the same thing over and over and over and over again gets really boring after awhile). So I could lean towards trying it out. But it seems a silly proposition for me to spend another $50 odd dollars to try out another MMO just for the eye candy.

I've actually taken up playing Civilization V again. And I've been getting into WoW PVP a lot more and starting to prefer it over raiding right now.

I never picked it up, either. I have a friend who gets me into games and then drops them, leaving me to solo the rest. He's trying to get me into Guild Wars 2, but Borderlands 2 is taking all my game time.

If any of you have any inclination toward returning to WoW, I will just say this:

I thought BC was the best expansion of BC, Wrath, and Cataclysm...

MoP is better than all of them.

MoP is definitely good. So there's at least one other person who is playing it. I haven't touched my alliance toons, though, since the expansion so they're just sitting there right now. Is Firemane on Hyjal? I have a level 85 Rogue on Hyjal I could mess around with.

So, I picked up Guild Wars 2 and I am a level 27 Charr Guardian under the account name of SpocKirk. I am playing some with my friend and some solo. We have a guild, Wumbo Wizards, that only has three people in it, so we are looking for people to join.
