Yeah, but with those FPS it is still high, they eye cant see a differeence above 60. These cards are hitting 200.
Perhaps, but in the future games are going to be more demanding, and unless you want to buy a new video card every 6 months you probably want a card that is faster than necessary now so that it will still be fast enough later on for newer games.
i can see a difference after 60fps... especially in fast paced quake 3 games. 80 is preferable.
I can see the difference between a good looking quake3 scene and a bad one at any frame rate.
Surely you can tell the difference between a nice picture and a blurry mess, even if its moving at only 60fps?
ha! I can see the diff between a good looking UT scene and a crappy Q3 scene.
funny thing is that the ATI buffs out there always used to brag about the supposed superior picture quality on ATI cards... same thing with the 3dfx buffs back a few years ago... and now this driver scandal.

i hate the masks in UT. i always blast myself with rockets in UT cos the masking sucks. q3 has perfect masking.
I like UT more then Q3 .
I prefer UT because of the balance. In Quake3 you can expect to win with only 3 weapons: Rocket Launcher, Railgun, and BFG.
And a BFG is almost a guaranteed win.
In UT, I've seen people win using dual enforcers.
Dual Enforcers is pretty easy actually, on secondary fire they shoot SO fast. The gun balance is pretty good, I mean you'd expect the GES Bio Rifle to be useless, I don't know about DM or CTF since I don't play it as much, but in assault it's used all the time. I think Q3 is less strategy and more instant gratification, UT requires more skill to be effective. Just my 2 cents...
Masking? Definition please.
i'm peaking around a corner and fire a rocket and the rocket hits the wall in front of me because the mask is jacked... even though in my first person view i am clearly not firing into the wall. q3 has perfect masking. you can fire a rocket within 1 pixel of the edge of a wall and it won't hit the wall (it's pure line of sight).
I think you need to change to centered weapons, that would probably fix that.

Does anyone have the carbonized version of the UT prog? The link from versiontracker goes to apple and it looks like apple pulled it. I can't find it anywhere else. I got the carbonized version of Q3, I'll try it out sometime this week.
Thats because the projectiles from UT are actually effected by size. A rocket is alot thicker then a bullet. Thats why it hits the wall.
UT seems just as balanced as Q3 to me. Its all deathmatch.
Actually, UT seems to take less skill and effort to win on my part then Q3 does.
I routinely kick ass in deathmatches using the sniper rifle for aggressive melee combat.
And you can whup people in Q3 with most of the weapons, except maybe the machine gun. Just takes skill.
There is lots of strategy with deathmatch in both games, especially if its one on one.
Q3 takes knowledge of the map, good reflexes, good aim, and good strategy to win. Same for UT.
