We love you in a different way.
I altered that spec you made with fire to see how this would work with frost instead of fire.
How is this?
Not bad, pretty close to what I'd do with 17 in Frost. If you want to join Scorpion in the mind-numbing activity of Blizzard farming you should consider Improved Blizzard and maybe Permafrost.
Thanks. I don't know if I have "the right stuf" to AOE all the time, but thanks ofr the info :-).
I was looking at this, and I realized something.
If I'm not going to use Arcane missiles as my main nuke, then why are there even points in Empowered arcane missiles. I could take those 3 points and move them somewhere maybe a little more useful.
Here's a build I came up with.
41 Arcane/20 Fire:
I tried to do this with frost, and I couldn’t seem to come up with anything I was happy about. It’s almost looking like that, if one goes 41 pts or more into arcane, then that person might as well use arcane missiles as their main nuke, because you miss a lot of great talents in frost and fire.
I’m not seeing arcane missiles as the main nuke as being a great idea. I might rather have a 41 frost/20 arc. I’m going to try to work something out to have slow though. To have only around 20 points in a tree and try to use that tree’s main attack spell as your main nuke, while maybe not bad, seems gimped a little compared to other possibilities.
I’ll keep you guys posted.
Sweet! A different way!
Well they've done good things with Arcane. Mind Mastery and Spell Power affect all schools, so I don't think going deep Arcane "gimps" the other schools.
The only thing I'd change in your 41/20 build above would be to move the 2 points from Improved Fire Blast to Incinerate.
41 Arcane/20 Frost is a pretty good build. http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info...100000000000000000000000505020300005000000000
If you PvP, you can move some points from Shatter into Frostbite. There is a similar build with 31 Arc/20 Frost.
You miss out on Fire Power with a 41 arc/20 fire build but it's still effective.
QFT. Arcane Mind and Mind Mastery do a good job of replacing Fire Power. Might even be better depending, but I haven't done the math.
I was looking at this build again, and I thought that, since Fireball is still the main nuke, would it be ok to pull one point out of Arcane Focus and put that in arcane fortitude?
EDIT: I'm seeing there are many ways to play around with this build...such as empowered arcane missiles being eliminated altogether, etc... :-).
The impression that I'm getting from mages that are playing on the beta is that fire will be nerfed. Best to put your money in either Arcane or Frost. I'm thinking of going frost (matter of fact, quite a few mages in my guild are going frost with one going 0/0/51). I'm not too sure about the arcane and am willing to bet I'll be spending another couple thousand gold respec'ing and testing stuff till I find a build I really like. All I know (at least what the consensus are saying) is that fire is getting a huge nerf.
I have only heard of the ignite nerf which can be argued to be a fix for an exploit. They are probably blowing it out of proportion for improved QQing.
I swear those forum mages are such whiney babies. I don't even want to post there anymore... every change is catastrophic, and every post is an attack against some other poster. If you aren't crying, bitching, or questioning some one's sexual orientation then you don't belong.
edit - oh yeah, the combustion nerf too (shared cooldown with PoM)
Are you gay?
QQ more faggot WTF NERF
now you sound like a REAL mage!
Thanks guys. I'm still messing around with things. I'll post a few ideas soon. I'm actually leaning more toward something a little heavier in fire now.
Use the PTR to copy your character and try different builds. If your character has enough gold then you can try multiple times without using any gold on your actual character.
Some build ideas:
17/41/3 - NO DB:
19/42/0 - DB:
- With this build, moving the pt in DB to arcane for 3/3 arcane meditation is a possibility
Overall, I like the first build better. That 41pts could certainly be played around with. I would just have a hard time giving up either impact other improved fireball.
I'm still toying around with arcane based builds. I'll post a couple soon.
I don't really read the WoW forum any more. The info that I get now are usually from actual guidies that are playing the beta (somehow a few of them got several beta keys and were just giving it away to fellow guildies). The info I got was from my guild's mage officer who have never been any other spec except fire since '04. Maybe I might just ask to use someone's char to test out the beta but from the what's been said so far, the mechanics are different plus the new spells give the other trees an edge over fire.
Here's the two BC builds I'm now toying with.
- Move the two points in Pyroblast and Blast wave to either 2/2 incinerate or 2/2 Blazing Speed. Overall, though, this is the build I’m leaning towards.
I don’t see the 3 pts in elemental precision being worth taking over other possible talents, but it’s something I have been thinking about.
As you can see, I'm leaning towards fire at the moment.
The only problem I have with arcane is that, even with the deep talents to increase mana, it seems like you'd still burn through it at a pretty good clip.
I love the idea of frost.
What's lead me to fire is the "go with the girl that brought you to the dance" theory. I've know done 50 levels with fire, and I've loved it. I don't see any big reason for me to change :-).
