    How can I set it so that my iBook never sleeps and never turns off the HDD when the AC adapter is plugged in?

    Energy Saver prefpane. scroll down the menu to power adapter. set sleep to never.

    yeah, uncheck the two boxes and set the top one to never. there is no separate setting for AC vs battery in OS X (maybe in 10.2, i don't know)
