I need to transfer some DV files from a mac to a PC. I tried burning it onto a DVD as just files, but the PC couldn't read it. My guess is that it can't read the format of the disk or something along those lines.

How would I burn a DVD (not movie, just files) so that a PC can read it?

Both comps have firewire ports, is there any way I could firewire the files from the mac to the PC?

there are several DVD-R formats. the type of disc you are burning is probably not compatible with your PC DVDROM. the best way to transfer the file is over a network. if both computers have ethernet ports you can connect them with a cross-over cable and set up file sharing. but sometimes it's a pain to setup mac to pc file sharing. you can always use a p2p program like hotline.

there should be options to burn the cd for compatibility for both machines, someone jump in on this as i dont recall what the pref would be called.

which operating systems are being used on each machine?

in my experience SOME PCs can read DVD-Rs and some cant.. doesnt appear to be any rhyme or reason to it, almost random really. i burned a DVD for a friend and his HP laptop wouldnt read it, but the guy next to him tried it in his compaq and it worked. *shrugs*

ISO9660 is a universal format that you can on CDRs. i'm not sure if you can use that format on DVDs. if you get Adaptec Toast DVD (called Roxio Toast now i think) it might be able to burn DVDs in ISO9660 format.

i don't know. if OS X's built-in burning program can't do it then you will need to get a 3rd party one that can.

OS X can. I've burnt plenty in ISO9660 and they work even on my old 486 powered DOS machine.

Not 9660 on a DVD, but there'll be a standard for them.
