Does anyone else have crappy quality with the OS X DVD player? In full screen, it looks worse than a DVD on a TV. Things that are supposed to be black are purple, and the picture is pixelly. The bad picture extends a little into the black bars for widescreen.

Menu action is bad; the moving object gets split up into horizontal bars and then every other bar is out of sync.

Is there a better DVD viewer or some setting like a checkbox to uncheck labeled "suck"? I know that I have to turn off the "sound enhancer" in iTunes to get sound quality to normal levels; is there a setting like this for the DVD player?

my ibook has a 32MB Radeon 7500. unless your sister upgraded to a newer ibook, i think her's has a 8MB rage. so mine has a lot more graphics power.

i'm honestly not sure what's causing that problem. i watched lots of DVDs on that G4, but i was using OS 9 at the time.

i searched on apple's discussion forums and found http://www.videolan.org/ from this thread. one guy says:

I've never had any trouble with my older iBook (600 dual usb) playing dvd's. I've never used anything but OSX on it. I only use it on trips, at home I've got a set up like cow - 5 disc.

I have a regular DVD-TV setup, too. That's why I haven't noticed until now. I wanted to see if the quality was better on my comp. I will try it on OS 9 when I have time

You can pick up a pretty good DVD player now for $100 canadian. That's pretty good and it beats watching dvds on your computer anyday.

My video card has VIVO so I can watch them on the TV. Both Composite RCA and S-Video.

Hey family, let's watch a movie.

Hold on, let me drag my computer out and hook it up to the TV.

Nope. Long cable and one second attachment time. The computer is nearly always on too. Saves me $100.

Install the drivers, then put in a dvd, and install some dvd software. Like ProDVD. I like that one. Anyways, it should have come with your DVD.
