Even though I don't like the idea of a mystery box setup for testing the results are rather impressive. General consensus seems to point to the Conroe easily surpassing AMD’s AM2 though not at the huge gap that was shown at GDC most likely around 13% and with the new prices it looks like Intel is setting out to retake the throne.

    We will see:

    Pricing plan:
Conroe Extreme Edition (XE): 3.0GHz or more, 1333MHz FSB, 4MB shared L2 cache, unknown

    E6700: 2.66 GHz, 1066MHz FSB, 4 MB shared L2 cache, $530
    E6600: 2.40 GHz, 1066MHz FSB, 4 MB shared L2 cache, $316

    E6400: 2.13 GHz, 1066MHz FSB, 2 MB shared L2 cache, $241
    E6300: 1.86 GHz, 1066MHz FSB, 2 MB shared L2 cache, $209

    E4200: 1.60 GHz, 800MHz FSB, 2 MB shared L2 cache, unknown

Personally I'll be watching both Intel and AMD but from the looks of it I'll be going with Intel and a Driect X 10 card for my new system (sometime near the end of the year or next when the new video cards come out.)

What bus is Intel using now? System bandwidth has always been a problem for Intel... unlike AMD who uses hypertransport.

It's still CSI but for dual core we shouldn't see any problems, once the quads come out that will be a different story. However the quads are already in the works and I am sure Intel has thought about the problems CSI has compared to hyper-transport, but right now and through most of the life of Duals we shouldn't see any problems proof lies in the demos.

A bit off the subject, X-bit got their hands of the processor I expect to see some real benchmarking from them from systems that are not close box and I am looking forward to the results.
