Here is a problem that I'm sure you are all aware of....

My son was playing on my computer and the computer crashed while he was loading a game... He had some difficulties, but he didn't do anything wrong that I saw.

I restart the computer, and I get this message asking me to confirm some sort of auto-update... I said OK (then was too nervous to cancel during the update).

The Apple Firmware was updated, and the crappy part is when that updates, it outdates some types of RAM that do not meet it's specifications... So my RAM was disabled...

Took me a couple days to figure out what had happened...my system was running off of the original 64 Meg RAM chip in the Lower slot..

I will be getting the 128 meg RAM chip replaced from the distributor... and I bought another 256 chip yesterday...

    This is just an FYI...

DO NOT LET THAT DUMB AUTO-UPDATE RUN!!!!!!

Huh? Never knew of an auto-update.

But Gilgamesh, buddy ol' pal. I got this assignment in World Lit. Read an excerpt from Gilgamesh and compare it to a movie. Compare like Gilgamesh to the hero in the movie.

Got any ideas? Please say you didn't just make that name up!

    Gekko,

Sorry, but I took the name from ancient history....but I know next to nothing of the real life Gilgamesh (Ancient Sumerian Hero??)

I'm sure there are plenty of resources at the library or on the web concerning Gilgamesh

Are you supposed to compare the historic Gilgamesh to a present day movie hero? Does it have to be a movie, or can it be current literature?

the story of Gilgamesh is kind of like the story of Darmok and Jalard at Tinagra.

Ignore this post if you were actually looking for info on Gilgamesh.

WOOT... just got my 256, installed it, and D2 screams now...

I'm getting 50-100 FPS, which dips down to 35-50 in heavy activity...

Will be getting my 128 replaced free of charge... again, WOOT...

    lol
that was one of my favs.

    suggestion for Gekko:
read the epic. it's not long, my copy is about 50 pages. Well worth the read even if you don't have to read all of it.
there is a movie out there that is a direct rip off of it, :D

Yes Cow, it is possible. I'd imagine much higher, like 125+ FPS, on any G4 with 700 MHz+, 133 bus, 256 megs of RAM, and a GeForce3/R8500 (when available).

You can read the book (recommended) or you can rent the movie. It came out last year and starred Christopher Lambert, the Highlander guy. It really sucked for content. But it was an interesting version.

I tend to like that stuff though, different viewpoints of the same old thing.

Actually that movie was beowulf, not gilgamesh. It wasn't even close to the story of beowulf, though.

    Re: Re: Computer Problem

The RAM was fine till the new firmware specs outdated it....It's not like I went to Joe's RAM shop in the ghetto for it....
