you forget that the whole reason a nat'l anthem is picked is because it is short and sticks in your head like a brain tumor. in that case, all nat'l anthems should be abolished. and what's this I hear about having state birds, state shrubs, and state mottoes? that is even more pointless- what do they do? are they there merely to be worshipped or something? SCREW NATIONALISM!!!

    O Canada!
    Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.

With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!

    From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

Nationalism is not a bad thing, its only bad when evil people twist it around and use it as a springboard for their own ends.

People can also be blinded by their nationalistic emotions and not think or act logically, thus making wrong decisions and often times enough their country loses that battle, political campaign etc from the masses not thinking with their heads.

There was a Ren and Stimpy anthem. Something about sand blowing up their skirts and along their butts. That was a long time ago. See if you can find it.

    STIMPY Come on everybody!

    Our coun-try reeks of trees
    Our yaks are real-ly large
    And they smell like rottingbeefcarcasses...

And we have to clean up af-ter them
And our saddle sores are-the best.
    We proudly wear wo-men's clothing.
And searing sand blows up our skirts.

    And buzzards, they soar o'erhead.
And poisonous snakes will devour-us whole.
Our bones will bleach in the sun.

    STIMPY That's it!

REN & STIMPY And we will probably go to heck.
And that is our great re-ward
For being the - uh - roy - yal
    Canadian kilted yaksmennnnn!

    Yay! Yahoo! <splork!>

Well, I agree with Hannibal that nationalism can be a good thing. There's nothing wrong with being proud of your country, even if you don't like everything it does. As with everything, emotions have to be tempered with a little rational thought.

As for me, I think that as an American if you aren't at least a little stirred by the history of Fort McHenry and the writing of the Star Spangled Banner, then you must have a cold, dead rock for a heart.

Cool, I can play it on the piano. We could probably get a Dixieland band or something going... or not.
