i know it's lame, but i'm think i want to upgrade my 700 ibook to the new 800 one. how much can i get for my current iBook?

    700MHz G3
    512KB L2
    12.1''
    384MB RAM
    16MB Radeon
    Combo drive
    Jaguar

basically it's identical to the stock $1299, 12.1'', 800MHz ibook except that mine:

    is 100MHz slower
    has half the video memory
    has 3x the RAM
has 10GB less hard drive (20GB instead of 30GB)

so i figure my iBook is probably worth about the same, $1299 (after considering the above differences). also consider that they buyer would save ~$100 on tax.

    what do you think?

Put it up on eBay with an insane reserve, just to see how high it gets (you wouldn't have to sell it obviously). Then you pick a price that seems fair but favorable to you. I wouldn't say it's worth the full $1299 because of depreciation, but maybe.

1299 is 100 less than the new 800. i don't think i would have any problems getting that much. depreciation? how so? i'm comparing it to the new models.

if you guys would be so kind, i also wouldn't mind my computers being appraised:

white iBook, 12.1" screen, 500MHz G3, 160MB RAM, 10GB HD, 8MB Rage Mobility, CD-ROM only, cooler older style charger, and AirPort card

dual 800MHz Quicksilver G4, 1.5GB RAM, 2x60GB HDs, 64MB Radeon 8500 (VGA, DVI and S-Video, with box and three video adapters), SuperDrive, and AirPort card

    harley's ibook:
comparing it to the new $999 ibook... the differences are:

half the cache (256K instead of 512K)
half the HDD (10GB vs 20GB)
    -200MHz
    slower bus (66 vs 100)
lesser graphics (8mb rage mobile vs 16mb radeon 7500)
    32MB more RAM
    airport card

i think everything else is the same. i'm gonna guess yours is worth between $750 - $800.

    not sure about your tower.

//edit: the fact that your ibook can't do quartz extreme probably takes it down to $700 now that i think about it.

cool, thanks. i'm probably going to sell it for a decent amount less to a friend, cause he's a nice guy and really, really wants a mac portable, but can't afford a new iBook.
as for tower, i don't know... i've heard from some people that i can get $6.5K canadian for it, (~$4K american) but one store offered to buy it for $1.5K, ($1K american) which is of course a total ripoff. i'm thinking i might just put up a few ads in a few local newspapers and hope for the best.

I´ll trade your tower for my crappy iMac complete with disk errors and and endless reformats. You must, however, provide your own insanity (which is required in order to use the damn thing)

Is the desktop with or without a monitor? from what I've seen a new desktop that has similar stats is only 4.5k CDN (without monitor)

come to think about it, comparing my iBook to the new $999 model is a more straight forward comparison. my iBook is identical to the $999 model except it has 256MB more RAM and a combo drive instead of a CDROM (two pluses). so i figure $999 + the RAM and combo drive = $1100 for sure, $1150 maybe. what do you guys think?

On the off chance that you can't get a better offer then 1.5k, could you give me a chance to buy it rather then the store?

dude, those are refurbished too. mine isn't. refurbs are always cheaper because there was something wrong with them, and they only come with a 3 month warranty because of that.
