I still havent managed to get my hands on one to try it out yet, how is the OS X performance? I remember that unless you set the color depth to 16-bit, OS X absolutely crawled on the 500 model. I was considering buying one, but at the advice of my buddy at apple, I've decided to wait for the show. That gives me time to do a little research and mess with the different options. If the 600 ends up sucking i could always buy a used Ti500 from somebody on ebay or something :D

The 600MHz iBook is noticably quicker than the 500MHz version. It runs on a 100MHz front-side bus and uses PC100 SDRAM. The 500MHz model uses a 66MHz bus and PC66 SDRAM. As for running OS X in 32-bit color, it shouldn't be a problem. Of course 16-bit will be faster, but the new iBook does fine as long as it has 256+ MB of RAM.

Hmmm... What is the age requirement for being a sales person at CompUSA?

Hmmm, my first post to this isn't here; the boards went down as I was typing it.

I use OS X almost exclusively on my iBook 600. I did not turn down the color depth. It works fine for Office X and iTunes, which is mainly what I got my iBook for (school). Battery life in X is about half what it is in OS 9 though, they need to fix that.

(I have 384 MB of RAM)

Is that because OS X is more processor intensive? I guess the CPU never has the chance to idle. Weird! It makes sense, but I never even though about it. :)

not here, my sister has a 500, it runs fine. It even ran pretty fast with OS X.0.3.
