I just bought S.M.A.C. (yeah I do buy most of my games) but want to play it from work and home but don't like hauling the CD around cuz half the time I forget it in the machine where I ain't. That said, does anyone know if/how SMAC can be played without the CD?

    and also...
I tried to make a disk image of my Monopoly CD but it wouldn't run the game without the real CD. Anyone know how to make either Disk Copy or Shrink Wrap images so the games think the CD is in place when it isn't?

    Thanks!

Games that won't run off of images are designed to communicate directly with the physical CDROM drive (I think). The only way to get around it is to get a hack specifically for that game that edits the data in the app file to allow it to run off of an image.

To answer the first part of your question, yes, SMAC will run off of a disk image instead of a CD.

It actually runs a little faster that way.
If only the game were as long-term playable as its predicessor. I got bored with it rather quickly.
